V for Vendetta Informal Review

I watched V for Vendetta this weekend. I've stopped going to the movie theater, so basically wait for everything to come in on NetFlix. This one got pushed behind for a while, but, I finally had a chance to view it this weekend.

Based off a graphic novel, as an idea, this movie is right up my alley. Near future, not too far ahead, with gleaming possibilities of reality. The story surrounds a future Britain which has fallen under a Nazi-like regime, and a man who seeks revenge through revolution. It has a mixture of George Orwell mixed with pop-culture, perhaps a bit too much American pop culture for a story which is supposed to be about Britain. The parallels of the Bush Administration, the War on Terror, Bird Flu, Bioterrorism and so forth update the film and make it more relevant to today.

V for Vendetta's main character V believes that violence is a method of justice... and Edey, Natalie Portman (who I think is a great actress), struggles if this truly is the route to freedom. It dives into the theme of "terrorist, or freedom fighter." ...and when is a government bad enough for terrorism to be the answer?

It's an interesting movie, with good acting and tasteful editing and directing. I would say its well worth your time.

Blu-Ray Audio/Video
The audio quality is solid, with an excellent balance of clear dialog and heart pounding explosions. It's a movie that will beg for subtle details from your tops, and angry growls from your subwoofer(s). There are a few scenes where the dialog has some microphone noise, but nothing too bad. Video quality is fantastic. Its a bit dim at times, to fit with the film, but the colors really come out when needed and create a great contrast of the dim British streets.

Recommended: 9/10

How come I can't write anything that sounds half as intelligent as that?:D

I may have to start smoking again but about the movie, I always thought that they used different masks with slightly different expressions on them but I could never pin point a specific difference from one scene to another. It was more of a feeling I had. Can anyone confirm this?

I would completely agree, Sensi. I had really heard nothing about this movie at all and picked it up when it was on sale for 5 or 6 bucks. I was stunned. It was definitely worth every penny, I'm a big fan of those "1984" like movies. Very good over all and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes a good "head-screw".

Agreed as well. My wife and I both absolutely love this movie, and it's not her kind of movie. She doesn't get into movies that much, but said she was blown away by this movie. That's pretty high marks.

I have this movie on HD-DVD and loved the audio portion of it. Especially the finale if you get my drift. I loved it, but my GF hated it. Althugh I must admit I felt very pervy seeing natalie Portman in that schoolgirl outfit. :p  :D I loved the surround sound effects of the Psi's whiching through the air and of course the returning gunfire from the soldiers. Overall a very good movie.

You wrote a good little review, and I agree, I quite liked the film as well. I actually saw it in theatres at release and was not dissapointed. I went back later and read the graphic novel, and enjoyed that as well.

I've seen it in the movies and on DVD, loved it both times. I have not read the graphic novel, but since I liked the movie so much, I might wait a while since I understand the two are not entirely the same. The imagery and metaphor were excellent.
