I'd heard the Outlaw was a little light in the midrange across the analog domain.

I have an Outlaw 990 AVP and an Outlaw 770 Amp and am very happy with them.
The UMC-1 is a potential ton of bang for the buck, but the 997
has Trinov etc. I'd get the Outlaw. Both of them look very tantalizing.

The choice will probably be made for you because the Outlaw will probably be available at some point. The Emotiva... well you never know.

I wonder why you would say this?

Has Emotiva said they were going to produce something and then not done it in the past?

I'm not flaming, I'm truly curious as I am thinking about the UMC-1 myself.

Well. I've been a member of Audioholics for about 16 months I guess... back when I joined, this unit was supposed to be out and was routinely promised and delayed, promised and delayed. It was a "just a few more weeks" mentality. I guess they say it'll be out now in June I suppose. Reading that just reminds me of reading "available early summer" last year after a couple of push backs.

Sure, it's probably a better piece of equipment today than it was a year ago, but I'm just not a fan of companies that can't deliver what they promise. Be up front and honest with you customers is all I ask.

I know they are very well liked here and my sentiment is not popular, but it's just the way I feel. They put out top quality equipment at a great price... no doubt about that, but I have other criteria as well that has to be met for my business.

Cool, fair enough.

I've been out of the whole A/V hobby so to speak for about a decade so when my TV started to act up I caught the bug again...much to my wifes dismay.

Isn't Outlaw doing the same thing though? Delays I mean.

Oh we have products to handle that now too.

Maybe it's the Blizzard practice. They release a game long after the deadline, but the game is usually amazing.

I'm quite certain that when the new Emo processor eventually arrives (summer?) that it will be a fine product worth your ht dollars. However, it'll be about a year and half delayed at that point.

I realize it's a tough game... you want to let consumers know what's in the pipeline, but this was a bit much for me... since I was one of the consumers delaying my purchase waiting for the repeatedly promised product to arrive. I just don't like that kind of business practice. Back in the old days, we called this thing vaporware referring to software and electronic that never actually showed up when promised.

I have nothing against Emotiva. They're a fine company, but for me, I'll put my dollars elsewhere for my own reasons.

My thoughts:

1) Room correction on Outlaw - don't care, don't even use Denon's Room EQ.
2) Emotiva has more features I prefer, like both Analog-to-Digital VIDEO conversion and Digital-to-Analog VIDEO conversion (which is unique). Emotiva has 5 HDMI Inputs, Outlaw has 4 HDMI.
3) Emotiva costs $700 LESS.
4) Neither one of them are out yet.

So as of this point, I would personally pick the Emotiva.

I second that , The Emo just has as much if not more to offer at a better price and it will look so nice next to my XPA-5.

If I were to do it over again, I would just get the UMC-1 + XPA-5, instead of the Denon AVR-5308CI.

Honestly.

I want UMC-1 + UPA-7 most likely. As long as I can use 5 + 2 for zoning.

EMOTIVA, if you're listening, I've got $2K with your name on it!!!

Personally I just bought a RPA-2 (used)and when the XPA-5's are back in stock I have one on order as well.

If we're just talking specs, I think the UMC has the Outlaw beat. Then add in the price difference and it's beat hands down.

Aesthetically I'd like to have matching components as well.

I have my eye on the UMC/ UPA-7 combo as well, and the delay doesn't bother me... it gives me more time to save :D

I do understand the frustrations of those that were ready to buy this a year ago, but hopefully we will get a much better product in the end!

It's likely and you certainly should end up with a better product. Don't get me wrong, if someone say, "Hey we have a great product on the horizon. I don't know exactly when it'll be out, could be some time from now, but it'll be worth the wait if there's not an outright need to purchase today" or something to that effect, than I can stomach it. I don't care whether it's electronics or the jackholes who were making our furniture - don't jerk me around and take me for a fool. Deliver what you promise or I'll simply spend my money elsewhere.
