In regards to speaker dimension, what are the most important features to consider when considering size and transparency of sound. ALso, what are the appropriate measurements to consider as far as speaker placement (distance appart).

It...

...depends on the speaker impedance but 18AWG should be OK for a nominal 8 Ohm load...16AWG would allow for more deviation from that nominal value...

...think there's any answer to that, come to think of it, there's not really much of a question either...

What the listener perceives as transparency has little or nothing to do with "size"...size of what? Transducers? Enclosure? Room? It's how they sound to you and how they interact with the listening room that's the crux of the biscuit.

For placement, most mfrs. give general guidelines for distance from side/rear walls etc. which then need to be tweaked for "accuracy" or individual preference...Rule of thumb says the two speakers (assuming a stereo set-up) and the listener should form an equilateral triangle...

I would use at least 16ga. Anything more is overkill, but if you think you might worry about it, then go for some 14ga or 12ga wire. Sure it won't make an audible difference, but if you're the type worry, then go for it so you don't have to second guess yourself.
