A friend of mine is getting married soon, his fiance will be moving here from New Zealand. She has a large DVD collection she will be bringing. My friend has the Insignia blu-ray player, I can't find any information about unlocking this player.

Would it be easier for him to just buy a region free player for her movies?

I found this player, which looks ok, but doesn't upconvert.

Can someone recommend a region free player? The cheaper the better, I don't think his fiance cares about upconverting or anything, she just wants to be able to watch her old movies.

I bought that Insignia for my dad, but he doesn't watch any other regions, so I haven't looked for a code. I read somewhere that there weren't even likely to be firmware updates for it though, so that may not bode well for it being region free. You never know though.

I don't have any experience with the Pioneer, but I'm sure it will do the trick based on what you said.

I would say yes, just get a region free player for her DVD movies. The XDE500 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8970722&type=product&id=1218010258625) can be made region free. You can find the code on the web easily yourself. At 79.99 it is not cheap but its picture quality is likely the best among players at this price point. I have both BD and HDDVD players but I use the XDE for DVDs. It offers better PQ and saves the HD players from unnecessary wear and tear.

Thread rebirth! Didn't want to make another thread so... I was wondering if there is a cheap blu-ray player that I can get the code to make it region free? I can't afford a Oppo right now. I don't need bells and whistles I already have a Sony 570 that is just fine, but doesn't have region free feature. Any suggestions? Thanks!
