I am having a tough time getting the DTS HD Master, DD Plus, True HD to be an option on my Onkyo 805. I have it connected to my PS3 and have the HDMI cable connected into my receiver. I can get my standard digital suround options but not the upgraded options you get with the Blue Ray Disc Player. Any suggestions????

Thanks

Jeff

If I am not mistaken, the PS3 should be set to PCM not bitstream for your receiver to handle it.

Are you trying to get the actual logo to light up?

I was told that wont happen with the PS3 but you do get the sound.

Is this correct? Anyone know?

You are correct, the receiver will typically just indicate multi channel in but won't indicate HD. However, there may be a button on the PS3 (just an educated guess as I don't own one) remote that, when pressed, will display the Dolby TruHD, DTS-MA etc. on the TV screen.

Press "select" on your remote or controller and it should say DTS-HD MA on the top right of your display.

So if I am going to maximize my surround sound quality will it matter which surround mode I am utilizing on my receiver or will it all be upgraded. I have multiple options that I can select from.

Thanks - I will try again tonight.

No you want to set it to auto. The receiver will not being decoding anything, it will simply be powering the speakers. You PS3 needs to be set to output PCM so it can internally decode and output the info to the onkyo. All you will see on your onkyo is something like PCM or Multi Channel

I have my PS3 hooked up to my Onkyo 805 and yes the most you will see on your 805 is Multichannel. Because of a hardware issue, the PS3 will not bitstream multichannel. If you have a 5.1 setup just set the Onkyo to direct or THX Cinema, If you have 7.1 then set it to THX Ultra 2 this will give you the benefit of having 5.1 encoded discs output as 7.1 and 7.1 encoded discs will be output direct. There is no difference in sound quality between Multichannel and Bitstream (with players that allow multichannel bitstreaming like the Sony 350,550 players, with Multichannel the player is doing the decoding, with Bitstreaming the reciever is doing the decoding. But since the PS3 will only bitstream stereo sources, it is always best to set it to PCM.

Just to clarify, the PS3 will bistream your standard DTS and DD sources, but it CANNOT bistream the new HD versions.
