Whole lot of feelings and assumptions going on now. From how Obama "feels" about "having power" to how close Ford is to the same situation as GM and Chrysler, we're totally diverging from referenced facts and published information to everyone's personal assumptions and beliefs.

Failing a rational explanation for the unprecedented use of presidential coercion, we must look at other irrational alternatives. To be fair, Bush got the ball rolling by demanding plans for Chrysler and GM but Obama has crossed into previously untried policy areas, over-riding the legal rights of the shareholders in the process.

I love my 07 Mustang.

Being that you are a liberal follower of Al Gores "ManMade" global warming hysteria, I surely hope you are doing your part buy purchasing massive amounts of carbon credits to offset your massive carbon footprint created by that beast of a Mustang.

Just sayin'....

Or is it.......do as I say, not as I do? (that rings true)

Speaking of carbon credits ...

I farted today, but then handed a homeless guy $5.

Does that count ?

If a company asks me for money to keep them afloat, I am a shareholder, period.

The American people are a huge shareholder in GM and Chrysler now, whether or not everyone wants to understand that fact. If we held a public election on Wagoner's fate, I seriously doubt he'd still have that job. The man who replaced him, as an internal appointment, is a GM career executive, not an administration monkey, so saying anything was done for the presidency's advantage is fundamentally biased and full of hot air. As you said yourself, irrational.

Lack of rational action for the past 50 years is what got us in this mess in the first place.

People were pissed off that the last administration allowed a bank bailout without good oversight and conditions. Now people want to be pissed over too much oversight and conditions. Fact is, there will never be unanimous content with anything done, because people will always have something to criticize. Criticism with suggestions for improvement substantiated by evidence and precedence is good, criticism for the sake of criticizing is worthless.

The American people are not shareholders in GM and Chrysler. You see, the gov't bought an equity position in banks during the financial sector bailout. In that case, they are shareholders and are entitled to vote as a percentage of their holdings, if they have voting shares. The gov't has made loans to GM and Chrysler. The gov't is a creditor, not a shareholder in this case. In the usual case of creditor/borrower negotiations, details are negotiated between the parties and the lead negotiator of one party does not publicly ridicule and demand the resignation of the leader of the other negotiating party. Obama's actions were entirely political and intended to impugn Wagoner publicly for the benefit of grabbing the headlines and putting a face on his scapegoat. Wagoner is not responsible for the US auto sales (both domestic and import) tumbling by 40% and no carefully crafted political statement by the chosen one will make that true, but he can make the public believe it's true.

Lack of rational action for the past 50 years is what got us in this mess in the first place.
But enough of your gov'ts actions...

Loans they are completely incapable of paying back and never will be. We all know it, but some of us can keep trying to deny it.

Then it was always the govt's option to not provide the loans in the first place, like any other lender. Yet it is still not a political decision of the president to choose who can or cannot be the CEO of a publicly held corporation.
