Purchasing a new AV receiver

Being a newbie, I need some help deciding the purchase of a new AV receiver. Does anyone have any knowledge regarding the newer receivers on the market as far as volume control during commercials. It seems that lately the TV commercials are 2 to 3 times louder than the regular program. Are there any receivers now on the market that automatically adjust for these types of problems? I must note that I am hearing impaired and need to have my volume louder than normal, but lately the commercials blow me out of the room because they are that much louder. Any help would be greatly appreciated............Thanks

Look for DRC!

I think DRC (Dynamic Range Control), is a pretty common feature these days...that's what you are looking for.

I have a Samsung 52LN750 LCD, DirectTV, Sony Blu-ray and Toshiba HDDVD that will be hooked up. My budget is probably between 800 - 1000. Thanks for your help so far.

I don't think Dynamic Range Control whether it be adaptive (function of volume setting ) or static will help here. I've got both features and tried both and I find myself turning down the volume during commericals and turning it back up once the program resumes.

To answer your question, I don't think there's a receiver out there that does that. What would be ideal is to have a setting that simply mutes the sound once a commericla starts and unmutes once the program resumes. And this feature should be able to turned on or off.

Isn't "Dolby Volume" supposed to help this? I know the high-end Denon receivers just got an upgrade with that. Not sure about some of the other brands.

I believe Denon has the best implementation of dynamic volume. Something like the 2309 should do the trick.

Would you be so kind to expound on that?

What I think I know so far:

-AS supplies the exact same codes/algorithms to ALL manufacturers.

-to use dyn vol or eq, the AS calibration must already be performed, no matter the version. Again, these codes are identical for every mftr.

So, how would one mftr implement it better than another? I'm not saying it can't be done, but I just wonder 1) how is it possible, and 2) how was anyone even able to make that distinction?
