Ford Question for Craigsub

Does Ford have any plans for a full size sedan with v8 power to compete with the likes of the Charger RT/Impala SS?

If not, are there any plans of retooling the Taurus with sport options that include a big V8?

It looks like they are bring back the SHO with a turbo'd six that supposable is also finding it's way into the mustang.

I answered that in the other thread. Yeah, the 2010 Taurus SHO. AWD, direct injection twin turbo 3.5L V6 with 365 HP and 350 lb/ft torque. Looks pretty good so far.

365HP is very impressive in a family sedan.

With that said, there is something about that V8 rumble that I would miss.

The SHO does look pretty compelling - It will be interesting to see if they pull off getting 365 HP and still manage mid 20's for highway mileage.

When my Flex lease is done in September, 2010, the new Taurus is on the short list of cars.

Nemo - That could be a terrific commuter car, back and forth from work, plug it in, and never have to put gas in it.

Pretty cool stuff !

It'd be great. I really hope it happens. Might be my first Ford purchase!

Get a job selling Hyundais, Steven ? :D

Seriously, I asked our local dealer about it, and he suggested I get a program Cadillac DTS instead. You know the dealer ... sells Chevy-Hyundai-Toyota-Ford. :)

If anybody is looking at a powerful sedan, (of course the future of GM might be in question) the G8 GT is just down-right sexy and has loads of power. I was very impressed with the car, tons of fun to drive. I ended up with a G6 GTP 6speed just cause it has front wheel drive vs the G8's rear wheel. It also comes with a lack of all weather shoes.. Not exactly ideal for a road warrior in all kinds of climates. On that note.. I'm very happy with my G6 Sedan...

Agreed.....the G8 is a pretty cool car.

I chose the Impala SS because the G8 is a little bit too small for what I wanted. I have children and I want a big honkin' family car for Gods sake....LOL
For me....choosing between the Charger RT and Impala SS was tough decision. The charger/Impala were my 2 finalists.........

I was totally on the fence.... the tipping point: I get a GM employee discount thanks to my GM retiree father. It's not a big discount, but it was just enough to get me off the fence.

I have no regrets.........
My daily driver:

Watching GM turn into "Obama Motors" makes me sick............. I may never buy GM again. How can anyone? (or dodge/Chrysler for that matter)

I am glad Ford didn't take the poison bait!!! I may soon be buying Ford products again. As a GM person, I have nothing against Ford. I have purchased new Ford products before.....most recently a Ford Explorer. If Ford offers a full size sporty/large sedan with a big honkin' V8...count me in!!

Under Obama....GM and Chrysler will be offering nothing but watered down politically expedient eco-trash. Just give it some time..............

Not that there is anything wrong with that...............

BUT..
In America.......very few demand or want that kind of car, which is exactly why they aren't marketed or sold more widely. Here in America, the public still decides what kind of cars are sold....based on demand. (not the government) The manufacturers produce cars based on what people WANT!! If the public demands it......manufacturers will make it!!!

If the public demanded a tiny battery car.......little euro-tin cans would already be mainstream here in the states!! .......but we as a nation don't want them......so they are NOT mainstream. At least for now in our in our now fleeting democracy, public demand still decides what products are for sale. Unless new socialist Obama'NOMICs laws require what consumers can or cannot buy which is very possible (the future of Obama/ChryslerMotors).............public demand rules.

for now...those who want a little box/electric car knows where to find them..... it's still a free market.....(for now) Just don't try to tell everyone else what we can or cannot buy.

That SHO looks impressive, but has one downfall.

Direct Injection.

The carbon build up in the combustion chambers with Direct injection is ridiculous. Need to keep the revs up in these engines.
