Epson Powerlite 6100...

I am strongly considering the purchase of an Epson Powerlite 6100 and a Grandview 92" (dia) fixed screen, with 1.0 gain.

Can anyone give me some advice as to why I should or shouldn't buy the above?

ALSO... part 2 of my question. I have a HT which is approx. 11' (w) x20' (L). the screen will be on the opposite end of the main viewing area. (which will be approx. 20')

In order to get my 92" viewing screen (4' high, 7' wide) which would then leave approx 2' on each side of my screen to mount my inwalls. i would need to mount the projector about 10' away from the screen (about the center of the room)

Is there a problem with having the projector in front of you like that? if so what are my options.

92" is very small if you intend to sit at the opposite end of the room. For a 92" diagonal, about 80" wide, you want to be sitting at 10' for that 'center of the theater' effect.

At the back of the room, it would be like sitting several theaters behind the back row of your local theater. It is just not going to recreate that cinematic experience (but it will look good).

I would push those seats way up, and put a card table behind them, or go with a screen which is closer to 9' wide if you can if you have no other choices in the placement of the seats & screen.

There is no issue with projector placement in front of viewers as long as you keep the projector high and out of the viewers site lines to the screen. Which is really not an issue.

How do you calculate this? is there a website?


The only issue i have is that in the centre of my 11' wall is the door enterance. so i would have to sit either in front or behind the door to clear the opening. (Not the ideal location for the door I know, but im trying to work with what I have)

So there will be no glare or anything from have the projector shining down in front of you?

Generally, every room is a compromise and everyone's viewing perception/perspective is different. Think of the 3 bears. If you position your seating just behing your door opening, I think you'll be about 2 x screen width back (assuming 13.5") which I think many people are comfortable with. This also puts you in a better spot for the acoustics of the room as well.

BTW, 92" 16:9 = 80" x 45". Those few inches can make a difference.

The one thing I notice is that pj/screen size combo is going have very good image brightness, 26 fL.

You have many layout options, and it may be better, potentially, in this room to even rotate the projection setup 90 degrees so you can have a couch in one section ideally setup for home theater, and the rest of the space as a media room. But, if you want to get an experience more similar to sitting in the middle of your local decent theater, you will need to move up closer from 20'.

From a decent screen, no. I typically recommend the Carada Brilliant White screen. Good price for an excellent screen.

I don't suggest sitting 20' from your screen. That is much to far.
I suggest sitting at around 14' back in the room. At least use that as your ideal sitting position.

Is your wall white? If so I suggest you set up the PJ and try out varrying distances and screen sizes before getting a screen. That way you will know what screen size you need. The other option is to decide what screen size you want, but I think all viewing preference vary and for a person just stepping into the PJ world you will want to experiment.

Where do you sit in a theater? Do you prefer front row, back row, middle where?

For a 92' screen, the optimal seating distance seems to be between 9.5' - 12'

For me anyway.
