Hi first post! I'm in a dilema, I need a new subwoofer. I was looking at the all popluar PB12NSD but also came across the DIY route using a CSS SD12 12" with Bash 500w amp in similar box size, both are about the same price. Bottom line which one would perform better?
As I am unfamiliar with the mentioned driver I can't comment, but generally a DIY sub will outperform any commercial sub at the same price.
If you want an amazing low cost DIY sub.
An Infinity Kappa Perfect 12VQ or 12.1 sub with a folded port, proper bracing and dampening. Will beat any commercial sub under 1000. And probably most up to 1500.
For an AMP I suggest using a Behringer Pro Amp like a behringer Ep1500 or a Yamaha pro amp. It gives you a lot more options with more headroom.
If you use the 12.1 then an A500 bridged would have plenty of power for most home theaters just make sure you use a crossover with a high pass filter.
The ideal box is around 25"H X22.5"L x 22.5"W in size.
