Best 2.1 Speakers Ever??

Hello people...

I am looking for a 2.1 speakers for my laptop and well..since i do not have any knowledge on good speakers naturally i went to check on Bose..

Well..i did some reseach on Companion® 5 multimedia speaker system ($399)
and Companion® 3 multimedia speaker system ($249.00)..

What i would like to know is..is it worth it to buy one of these products because i always thought Bose offers great sound experience..or is there any other BRANDS that you guys can recommend that offer the same or even greater music experience..
i also learnt that Logitech Z-2300 is great..but is it greater than Bose..or is it the same??

I also would like you guys to note that i will use the speakers mainly for music to games

If you really, really feel deep down in your heart that those Bose speakers are the best in the world, go for 'em. The Bose people invested much $$ in creating that warm, fuzzy feeling towards their product and many people will agree with you.

As for comprable sound, I have an Altec Lansing 2.1 I picked up at Walmart for $25 that, IMNSHO, sounds better. ...but the only warm, fuzzy frrling I get is when I enjoy the sound that comes out of then, not the "I own Bose so they must be the best" feeling that many people paid mucho $$ enjoy.


...and there are even better than mine out there, but they ain't Bose.

Incidentally, your personal tastes rule here so there is no definitive answer.

With that budget I'd be looking at receivers and bookshelves instead of computer speakers. Others can chime in or, better yet, why not go out there and listen to what's available locally.

I would look into the Kef Picoforte series (1 or 3). They should both be in your price range, the "1" easily, on Amazon. Kef is a highly respected speaker manufacturer. You get an ipod dock, line in (for your sound card to the amp), 2 speakers, a sub out, and a 2x35W amp. Not a bad deal and they sound great. Worth a look.

If you want an easy PnP speaker set without any receiver, Logitech Z-2300 is my choice. I have Z-2200 and still loving it and got many compliments from my friends who owns Altec, Creative and even Bose. You can play it very smoothly and also you can crank it up until you cannot stand it anymore.

For about $150, I think the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers would outperform the bose as well.

I don't know about that for a full surround system though.

I love and own KEf speakers but for 400 you can't afford even 1000 series unless you find one on Craigslist(at least look)

I suggest you look at the speaker company. they have a nice 400 dollar package that will smoke Bose.

Hi 101.

The Audioengine 2 ($200 pr) are small self -powered speakers designed for use with computers. It is the only speaker mentioned above that is a "Recommended Component" in Stereophile magazine. The speakers are also recommended in Absolute Sound and the British zine, HI-Fi+.

I have never heard them, but I def recommend that you try to audition them.

If it were me, I'd be looking at M-audio, Mackie, and maybe a couple other active studio monitors... The Behringer Truth 2030A would be a good option....

For the record... And I know that Bose has a bad reputation around here for the most part, BUT and its a big but... Some of their multimedia products arent too bad. Not to say that they are worth the cash, but cmon, that 400 dollar bose setup will smoke the 25 dollar setup from walmart. Thats just a ridiculous statement. Its one thing to hate a company, its a completely other not to be objective when giving advice. Their soundock is one of the best Ipod dock for sound and features i've come across, save the Zeppelin by b&w.

I'm the first to jump on the dont buy bose train, but some of their products are a convenient, long lasting product that while it may not present maximum value, is still not a BAD purchase...

I recommend the klipsch promedia 2.1's as well. The only problem with them is the din plug breaks easily. The logitech Z-2300's arent very good in my opinion. My roommate has them and although the bass is loud, the satellites speakers sound metallic and they lack a tweeter.
