Anyone had any experience with these? I just want to use them as a 2 channel stereo setup. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews and wanted to see if anyone had any first hand experience with them.

thanks

What has lead you to them in the first place?

What's your budget?

There are a lot of good pairs of bookshelves however few are sufficient for a 2 channel setup. Usually you want a pair of low end drivers at least. So an MTM or TMM design is suggested. A tower pair would be even better. A great set of towers are the KEF iQ series.

Others are the Primus towers(which sell for around 100 on ebay auctions usually). Or can be purchased online from Fry's for 240 total.

around 200. i saw the B2030P on the budget speaker shootout, and while researching them I saw that there was a bigger version, which reached lower frequencies.

I would say no unless you want to pair them with a sub.

The best options for you IMO at your budget in order of what I would do.
1.http://shop4.frys.com/product/5223687?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Worth the extra and will give you a full range of sound
Great deal.

Lesser choices
1.http://www.thespeakercompany.com/TSBL-65-2-way-Bookshelf-Speaker-Pair-P46C6.aspx

2.http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-sbs01.cfm

basically you want a 6.5" driver if you aren't going to have a sub and you go 2-way IMO.

The towers I listed are a steal at 120 and also go on ebay for a very good prices straight from the factory with full warranties.

you would suggest those bookshelves even over the behringers which have an 8 & 3/4 inch driver?

Not really. I just think your better off with Towers

But Wmax does have mods to improve the Behringers. So I say go for em.

Then do his mods.

Just wanted to add that I've got the 2030ps and really like them. Very transparent speaker. I did one of the mods but didnt add any additional internal bracing like suggested. You can achieve virtually any sound signature you want with an active EQ like the behringer dcx2496.

Another option if you want some a little more low end would be the dayton br1 kit. Support audioholics and pick up a pair for 129. Great speaker for the money as well..

I've had them both but prefer the 2030p but I also have them in a 2.1 setup

Or save your money and get 'em from PE for $99. There was a sale.
EDIT: AH may have free shipping. Not sure.

The 2030's have been favorably reviewed while the 2031's are an unknown at least to me. You won't get high dB's out of the 2030's but SQ is suppose to be fantastic and you will need a sub/subs but PE has a budget minded solution for that too with that Dayton 12".

Recently I chose 4 2030's for my sisters surrounds and a couple of Dayton 12" subs for her HT. It's not for the same application but I believe that those items are a good value. YMMV.

B2030P & B2031P
Im ready to buy but i dont care for soft dome tweeters?
The boston acoustic hs60 i have have soft domes and im wondering.
Are the 2030 2031's sharp enough? The ba's seem a bit soft.
I prefer careful eq and sharp/accurate tweeters. Are they good?
Im guessing the 6.5" is more seemless then the 8"?
I'll stop babbling and listen.

Thanks

If you are crossing at about 80Hz to a subwoofer, the B2030P is the best option. It will produce better mid-range than the 2031P. The 2030P has a metal dome tweeter, btw, not a soft dome.

What question do you have? I have taken them apart, inspected, modified and measured this product extensively. I can answer any question you could have, in any detail that you require.

chris, mainly if the tweeters are soft dome or not.
i feel soft domes smooth out the sound too much..not accurate.
you said they arent soft so thats great news. i'll order tomorrow.
you like them? im guessing they sound like 2x the $.
no pro/recording/mixing audio places near me to take a listen.
i'll be satisfied im sure for cheap speakers. thanks again.

They use alloy metal tweeters.

As far as sound, well, they measure and are built to the standards that you would expect from speakers that cost 4-6x the price. Literally. They have some phenomenal measured performance. But you do need to cross them at 80Hz or higher and keep bass from them. They were not designed to play bass, but instead to act as high quality mid-treble modules.

With some minor modifications you can increase their SQ by a fair margin. These mods are just basic things that most manufacturers overlook for mass production. I can describe them if you desire.

The mods are you suggest are already linked in the thread. I've actually considered getting 3 of these speakers and modding them. I'm interested in seeing what they sound like.
