Hello all

Quick question (Ive made a search but couldnt find information)

I'm buying these bookshelf speakers soon for my computer
Dayton BR-1 --> http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-642

So now I need to get a used receiver (not too expensive) and I know nothing about it. What do I need to look at. I will eventually add a subwoofer.

There are 2 used receivers that I can buy in my city for like 120$

Yamaha RX-V793 :http://www.audioreview.com/mfr/yamaha/a-v-receivers/rx-v793/PRD_118879_2718crx.aspx#review0

JVC RX-6010V http://www0.dealtime.com/xPF-JVC-RX-6010V

So I imagine I need something with 70 to 100W per channel with a digital optical input (S/PDIF), Am I wrong?

thanks for the help

Yamms are good receivers, but that receiver goes for $73 dollars on ebay.

www.accessories4less.com
and the
harman Kardon store on ebay

are the best places to get an AVR on a budget IMO. Both have very good service and great prices.

You can get a full 5.1 system for $250 from TSC according to the add to my right. If you don't like it they will pay to ship it back. I suggest seeing if you can get a couple subs.

What are we trying to do here?

Do you want a 2.0 setup? 5.1 what?

Thanks for the advices :)

It's a computer setup so I'm going for a 2.0 for now and will eventually add a subwoofer so .. 2.1 in the future ; I'm not going for a 5.1 setup.

I'll have a look at the links you sent me, what are the specs I need to check carefully for my needs?

Did I mention that I think you should go with the Behringer's if accuracy is a concern? (yes, I am responding in part your other thread concerning speaker choice:D)

The most likely reason that the Daytons have a spec'd lower frequency extension is due to under the conditions it was rated. The Behringers are studio monitors, and it's likely their rating is more stringent. If Dayton rated their's under the same conditions it would more than likely be closer to 65hz or higher. The Behringer is likely rated closer to roll-off than the Daytons. There are many good floorstanding speakers that don't extend as low as 43hz (usefully and practically). It's difficult to tune a small enclosure with smal drivers to such a low frequency without modifying the x-over to effectively create a bass hump which may be quite distraction with mid-low bass frequencies.

The Yamaha is going to sport the more tout amp section and is likely better built. Having owned both JVC and Yamaha receivers I can attest to each brands average build quality. JVC usually isn't revered in the receiver manufacturing business, they pretty much just make whatever to stay in that market, they aren't usually leaders in new technology or making the most of the old. Much like Sony, they just have the product line to say that they do and hope that die hard fans with buy their product.
