I'm in the market for an excellent condition used laptop. Anyone out there looking to upgrade to new whizbang features (which I don't need) and sell their old computer?

The things I care about:

Not too expensive;
Wireless card;
Working battery;
XP OS;
> 1.4G processor;
> 1G RAM;
> 60G memory.
> 14.5" screen.

Please PM me if you're looking to part with one. TIA.

Do you have a budget in mind? I have a 2-yr old Sony Vaio in excellent condition that I'm looking to upgrade at some point. It's probably a bit more machine than you're looking for, but if $550 or so isn't out of the question I'd be happy to provide specs and pics.

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks, Jason. That is more than I wanted to spend for used. I'm thinking $400 or less (emphasis on less :(). I'm a po' boy.

Wow, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for, but with one exception...the Vista OS. I'm most definitely not a tech-geek when it comes to computers. How easy or not is it to install XP over Vista? In fact, all the negative reports about Vista is what kept me from looking for deals on new laptops, like this one. Finding an XP disc might also be troublesome...yes?

Dell has a Vostro for $649 with XP, but that's more than I wanted to part with.

Thanks again, zeuiax.

If you have a copy of xp then its not that difficult :D. Then again how are you planning on using this laptop. Vista is not as good as xp pro but you can get away with it for simple home use.

No, I don't have a copy of XP. :cool: (I just have computer-specific recovery discs.)

I have a few project development programs and games that I fear are not backward compatible with Vista.

Opinion disclaimer...:eek::
And just what is the deal with MS?! :mad: Why would they put out this goofy new OS that isn't compatible with XP products?! Perhaps that is how they force the purchase of new products while making others useless. Incompetence and/or greed? (Sound like a government?!)

It is much like the Bush Administration. Not to worry though, Obama will soon force the computer manufacturers make honest hard working products at the expense of the well to do. Those rich folks love giving money away, that's how they got rich ... wait a minute. :)

I'm pretty sure that I know less about computers than you do. In my search for a laptop I ended up with a 64 bit because it's faster than 32 bit only to find out that it won't run my automotive manuals for my vehicles. It told me to get new manuals. $10 per manual on eBay doesn't get you a lot of support. So there is that to watch out for but at $400 I think you're safe. It's funny how this game is rigged. You will pay and pay. The body of information is huge to begin with and to make the task of staying with it even more daunting, they reinvent the wheel on you twice a week. :rolleyes:

I wouldn't buy used and I think you're gonna have to accept Vista. If it makes you feel any better, they have had time to work some of the bugs out by now. The bad news is that as soon as you (yes you) take the leap, they will have a new OS making whatever you just bought complete garbage. :D

I don't think they even make the one I just bought anymore but because I got it a month ago, you should be able to find a laptop that does more for less.

Did you check e-bay. I bought a laptop off e-bay last year for $299 and it is still in perfect working order. It came with XP pro and I am very happy with it.

64 bit vista sucks!! you cannot use real player, and many other programs. if you can get the 32 bit vista, you will be much better imo.
