Emotiva UMC-1 vs Denon 2809

well no way to really know yet until the UMC-1 is released. But based on specs it should be a better unit.

I used the Denon 2809ci for awhile, but i wasn't that impressed with it. I definately prefer my current Marantz 6003 over it, but im positive the UMC-1 will be much better than the 6003.


As far as video scaling, the UMC-1 should do a much better job than the 2809.

Thank you...that is helpful. I like the fact that the UMC-1 will be less expensive than the 2809 too.

Not to state the obvious to be insulting here; but you do realize that the Emo is only a pre-pro and will need external amplification right?

Beyond that, I'd take the Emo over the Denon in a heartbeat.

Yes I did...I would plan to pair either with the XPA-5.

I looked at the UMC-1 but didnt want to wait for over a year.

I compared the Sony 3400es and the Denon 2809. The Denon was a much better unit hands down, and i have been happy ever since.

Just out of curiousity, why are you replacing them?

To maintain my HDMI sources and use the Zone2 Component out with all of them. No receiver out there can convert HDMI source to analog.

Right now I'm using my Harmony activities to macro switch the HDMIOut port for whichever room I am in. That does me no good when I want to play the 360 and the woman wants to watch cable.

And I'm not getting two of every device.
