I did a research on some of my mp3 files i am playing. Most of them are above 300 bit rate, which you guys say are pretty good quality. Yes, i am playing it from the headphone output of my laptop. Does sound card make a huge difference in sound quality? And I downloaded them by using rapidshare. So the source might not be a problem? Too bad I could not find a cd player around my college dorm. It seems pretty outdated.
It can. Also make sure you have the output set for speakers not for headphones.

I would tend to disagree. In my experience and reviews the P162 are very much a music speaker and compete with speakers well beyond there price point.

Considering the garbage of a source and most likely a poor sound card he is using I still put my money on his MP3 collection. Especially if there from a p2p site like Limewire.

I guess we can agree to disagree.;)
This is the case for many listeners. But not everyone. And they still sound like a 200 dollar speaker. :D Other speakers may not sound like a 500 dollar speaker but that's there problem:p

FYI I like Infinity Speakers so don't paint the idea that they suck on me. I personally would love to have my Betas back but I needed the funds for the IRS. So there is no disagreement to be had. ;)

We actually agree:eek: At least in every setup I've heard they do well.

This certainly isn't helping. The headphone output from many laptops can be dreadful. I've used several laptops, and the headphone output has ranged from fine to pitiful. You can get portable external sound cards for pretty cheap.

Just don't install any Creative software. Let Windows run the speaker management. Creative makes really bad software IMO. It doesn't work right half the time. The hardware is good though.

I think it's funny that there are people with more posts in this thread than the OP has total :D
