May I ask how would I know if my CD player or DVD player is playing at the correct speed? The old style turn table have adjustments for speed, mostly by turning the speed of the drive motor up or down, and we gauge it visually, but with the CD players, how can we find out? and how do we know if it is playing at a correct speed?

Thanks.

CD and DVD players aren't analog, so you don't adjust the speed to change the pitch like on a turntable. I believe that the clock for CD and DVD players is still analog, but you don't adjust it. If you can hear the music or see the video, then odds are extremely high that the disc is spinning at the right speed.

Why do you ask? Are you getting strange behavior from your system, or are you just curious?

Digital discs change speed the whole time to keep the streaming rate constant.

You can't change pitch by changing rotation speed in digital systems. They either work or not. If the speed is off you get nothing.

I had a first and second generation player that allowed pitch adjustment at any given speed/area of disc being played. I have not seen one since 83-84. I believe my technics would allow this and a sony?...man, it's been a while. I still have my Stereo Review issue with the cd as an ornament on the tree!
