Found Cause of PDP-5020FD Buzzing, currently working to find a cheap cure!

Tonight I was running the burn in on my PDP-5020FD and the screen was dark blue. The set is roughly 30 feet from the kitchen and I went to go get something to drink and turned on the kitchen light and the PDP-5020FD started buzzing like a bee so I tuned the light off and the buzzing stopped. :)

After careful thought it finally makes sense, I have florescent lights and they have what is called a ballast, when the ballast is energized it sends of RF (radio frequency waves) which are transmitted through the air and are attracted to the power lines of the audio and video components. They then "ride" the line in and cause problems with PCB's

I am currently trying to find a cheap fix for this!:D

Don't assume it is coming in on the power lines. It might be, but there are a lot of other places RF can penetrate.

Yeah, it is a good hunch though, first step is to isolate the line. I have an EE and I used to work for a company that manufactured equipment with RF antennas.

I can isolate the circuit that it is affecting but don't want void warranty, so have to find a work around solution.:)

I have some buzzing sound coming trought my 1140 elite ever so often. My problem is the cable box. I unplug it for an hour or so and the capacitors (I think) discharge and I am good to go for a month or two.

This could be a static charge building up on your coax, you need a good ground. I used to have a similar problem with my SAT until I replaced the ground.
