I haven't tried this, but could you take a look?

I have Slysoft AnyDVD HD, and I have used it to play a backed-up BD from a folder on my PC, which I backed up using DVDFab HD Decrypter. There is no problem getting an HD soundtrack ripped to the hard drive, and with AnyDVD HD activated, PowerDVD with the ASUS card should bitstream the audio just like it was reading a physical disc. Maybe I am not clear on the issue you guys are concerned about...

I think my problem is not having the Asus chip along with PowerDVD 8.:D

With my current laptop, my PowerDVD 8 only gives me TWO options for Audio Output:

1) PCM
2) AC3/DTS Passthru (bitstream).

There is NOT an option for TrueHD/DTS-HD MA Passthru (bitstream) with my current laptop.

Gotcha. Same here, unfortunately. My understanding is that our laptops' onboard sound hardware is completely incapable of bitstreaming the HD audio formats (Mine is an HP Compaq 8510w with SoundMax HD Audio, which, ironically, will not bitstream HD audio).

Honestly, I guess I am satisfied with the passthru of the older formats for backed-up material at the moment, which is evident by the fact that I don't have the ASUS card in my HTPC. I also have the option of hooking up analog 5.1 for the PC, and AFAIK it can decode the formats internally. :D

Mine is a HP Pavilion DV7-1270US.

I'm also very satisfied with the AC3/DTS Passthru.

When I watched Doom BD (HP laptop + Denon) I thought the sound (DTS) was every bit the equal of the Denon BD Player (DTS-HD MA).

The only thing I don't like about my laptop is playing back WAV file music. The beginning of every song seems to be missing a second or two. Why is that? It's the same way with both Windows Media Player & Power DVD 8 when playing back music. Is it the HDMI - Receiver thing?

That's what it sounds like to me at first - receiver/pc handshaking issue, but the fact that it does it on every song and not just the first one makes me wonder.

I have a suggestion for a possible solution on that, just to see: try downloading winamp and install the smallest amount of features (just make sure you install the wave support and direct sound output, and don't install video support). Winamp has an adjustable buffer, and the default setting is perfect for flac's and probably for wav files too, but you could even adjust it more if you needed. Many prefer other music player programs, but I won't use anything else as far as music is concerned.

I hope it works for you :)

That is great news! I am glad it worked for you too.

I am like a Winamp missionary. Another one converted! :D
