This may sound like a lame question for some of you audioholics, but can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive portable speaker system for the Ipod?

I'd like to take mine with me on vacation (hence the portable, will be traveling by plane) and don't want to lug around a big box. Does such a thing exist? Doesn't have to be superior sound, just something that I could park my Ipod on and listen to some decent music. Something I could pack in my suitcase and still have room for clothes!

Wouldn't headphones be better than a portable speaker system?

True, I have headphones, but we'll be staying at a condo and I want to be able to setup the music while we're lounging on the lanai sipping our wine and dining al fresco (makes me wish I was there now!).

Depends on how big you want to go, and if you want powered or non powered speakers. But some nice computer speakers would be your best bet.
Several companies also make ipod docks, so one of those may suit you well.

Aren't there battery powered t-amps? A t-amp and some small bookshelf speakers might sound better then an ipod dock.

Hey Rush29,
Mark also recommended that unit to me. (Thanks Mark!)
We just got it last week and it's very nice and sounds surprisingly good.
Plan to use it for travel.
It's on sale at Sears for $50 it's well worth it too.
