NHT closing down??

I don't know about the recent stuff, but the ones that I bought in 1998 were made in the USA.

They made some great speakers over the years...the Classic 3's were some of the best bookshelf speakers I've ever owned. Still have (and love) my SuperZero's. This is sad news indeed.

Fortunately, they are not shutting down. They have been repurchased by the original owner/founder:

Chris Byrne, who co-founded NHT in 1986, has bought back the brand with two partners from its most recent owner, Vinci Group.

Byrne was most recently managing director of NHT at Vinci until his departure from the company in September, and began negotiations in early December to effect a managed buyout, which was just finalized. The two other partners to the buyout are longtime NHT executive John Johnsen and Jim Pyle, a Silicon Valley business entrepreneur heretofore unconnected to the consumer electronics industry.

So, the Classic line will contine!! All they are getting rid of are the Vinci designs.

The NHT line was designed in California, but has been manufactured in China for some time. A dealer told me just last week that it was announced that NHT is indeed shutting down. That is very unfortunate, because the Classic line were very nice looking and great sounding speakers at a reasonable price.

Damnit, I didn't notice that the article was that old. I just looked on their site and the last "latest news" is also almost a year old as well. That really sucks if they are indeed going to close the doors. Their facility is in driving distance from me and their gear is pushed quite a bit by local retailers. Perhaps they will roll into a new speaker company that is back to basics like the classics

I almost pulled the trigger on the Xd 2.1 set up. It looked hot and was getting rave reviews. TLS is always talking about the amplification being at the speaker, and this was just that, plus DSP processing. Hot.
I currently run two old passive NHTSW2P's from the nineties and they sound great.

The old NHTs are perfect for a dismal economy. Cheap, simple, excellent value sounds like an idea whose time is returning. My small basement room is equipped with Super ones and an NHT sub and that system is great for movies and music. Great bottom for such a small speaker, excellent detail and clean highs. I hope NHT makes it back somehow.
