Well, I bit the bullet, but I fared out all right, in my opinion of course.

I picked up a 6020FD with a 4 year warranty and a Sanus wall mount for $6296 CDN, all in.

The price break down of the specific components are as follows:

6020: $4319.99 (not bad!!)

Sanus wall mount: $250

4 year warranty: $999 (yucky price, but they wouldn't deal on the TV unless I bought a warranty... it's ok I guess, I got 4 years of worry free viewing from it...)
The way I see it, this thing is listed for C$6,499 in Canada or US$5500=C$6,800 in the U.S.

Your effective price (adding the "part of the deal" C$999 warranty and minus the C$50 delivery) is C$5,269.

That is a discount of C$1,230 or almost a 20% discount off the list price. On top of that you do get at least 1 year extended warranty assuming the Kuro also gets the 3 year warranty. You may find a better deal on line but it is not the same as buying from your local authorized dealer with an extended warranty plus plus a reasonable return policy.

Your patience and thoroughness in your research finally pays off. Congratulations!!

Add in about $750 worth of tax and we're sitting at $6296.32. Oh, and they threw in white glove delivery. Sweet.

Can't wait for next Friday!! I am going to take some pics of all my new gear and post them in my dedicated room thread at the end of next week!

Oh, and I hope Jack Jones is not correct in his predictions. It will be interesting to see how things turn out with the remaining Kuro's prices. I don't know if they have all the inventory you say they do... they only had 3 remaining 6020's in all of eastern Canada, and I bought one of them.

Edit: Jack, where can you find a pro-151fd for $3999? Thanks.
Sounds like you're satisfied with the price and the purchase experience on your 6020. Best recommendation is to not look back on future market pricing from here forward and instead spend your time enjoying that great new Pioneer picture.

Thanks guys, I hope it arrives in one piece, transporting big tv's like that always makes me nervous.

And yes, I do hope the store is around still. What happens to people that purchase extended warranties and the store goes under? I guess you're simply out of luck?

Yeap Basically, stores are well aware of this too..thats why you always see tons of infomercials with "life-time" warranties..

And there is no recourse to the consumer? That would be really, really bad. I couldn't even imagine how many thousands and thousands of dollars Best Buy has made from extended warranties, for all of them to become null and void due to a foreclosure.

you mean CC...but yea it happens all the time. Tons of things happen similiar to this, theirs websites dedicated to just company compliaints, for all kinds of claims..

But seriously these sets are built to last, even if you get 5 years out of the set, its a great investment.

Fyi the store doesnt hold the service policy.
Bandphan is right it is normally insurance companies, the biggest gambling racket there is. You pay the fee and 9 out of ten you don't use it. I hope these policies for electronics don't change into auto ones where when you have a wreck they pay and then jack your rates up (your "policy" becomes a short term loan).

To come clauses that include limit on usage, redemtion fee to use your repair policy, etc.

Thats good to know, never knew that...Not the biggest fan of warranties though, most of the time its not worth the extra money, but of course a "piece of mind" is sometimes priceless..

Oh I fully agree regarding those extended warranty purchases. I didn't want to purchase one... but you can obviously see how confident that a store is to cut $2200 dollars off the list price of a TV (making it under cost) as long as you buy a thousand dollar extended warranty.

They know what they are doing and how to run their business. Of course it's all a scam. If they sell 100 of those warranties, and only 3 customers come back for a repair, they just made about $95k. And that is assuming the failure rate is 3% which is somewhat generous, and that the cost of the repair is a substantial one, not just some dinky cheap part.

I don't think I would ever buy an EW given the choice, I think I'd take my chances on the set surviving, and spend the cash to repair it at the time if it needed it.

With the pricing trend of new TV's coming down the pipe, we may see a shift where it is more economical to just scrap the TV and buy a new one eventually.

Take for example my 1080i capable Panasonic 50 inch LCD projection TV. I (stupidly) bought this TV when it first came on the market, the technology was still brand new. I paid $400 for an EW and the set itself cost me about $6k.

Nowadays you can buy a 1080p 50" display for what? Maybe a thousand bucks? If and when that Panasonic kicks the bucket I'm almost looking forward to it, I'll just buy a cheap flat panel and get that big monster sized box out of my house. I don't even know if I'd bother having it fixed.

Another note on the EWs, the normal is to provide an annual service check, if not used and no claim made during the EW, you can get a pro rated portion back.

As I said before, in your case it is the "effective" price that counts. All and all you have got yourself a very decent deal for one of the best TV available. You beat the best available Amazon.com prices when you factor in shipping and dollar conversion. This is even if you consider the extended warranty has zero value. If I were able to get a deal like yours I might have opted for that 60" too instead of my 50" Elite.

Congratulations again!

I was just passing along info. I think that if I bought an EW than I would buy one from squaretrade (anyone had experience with them?). It looks like they have the best coverage for 40% less than the Big Box.

Yeah it is a bonus if you pay less and get the EW:D
