hey guys
im looking to build my own subwoofer but am definetly going to need your help along the way
the sub i currently have is a klipsch 10" and when i turn it up loud sometimes it will rattle which i really do not want at all. If you guys think you may have a solution to this feel free to post advice on how i might go about fixing that problem, but i get the feeling that its just poor quality build.
Anyway first of all could anyone recommend a cone for the subwoofer because TBH im not really sure what im looking for here so i probably sound crazy telling you i want to build my own sub but im sure you guys will advise me of quality parts for the sub and i will also be receiving help to build it and put it all together
anyway ANY help at all would be great, i really want a great sounding, great looking, non rattling sub with great bass :D
Thanks for any help
~TiM~

your best bet is to go to the DIY forum where there is a sticky for a Infinity Kappa build. It tell you what to buy what boards to cut and how to put it together.

Not to be a turd, but you may also want to consider using periods and paragraphs in your postings, it was a bit difficult getting through your post... ;)

Now, as for your orginal question(s), I (and likely others) wouldn't suggest a specific driver for the Klipsch enclosure, if that was one of your questions. While it is possible to match a driver to a specific enclosure, it's always easier to build the enclosure based on the driver's specifications and intended use.

As Eclipseonya mentioned, the DIY Corner will have the best input here on Audioholics for sub building. There's also some great info over at the Home Theater Shack for DIY builds, also over at the AVS Forums as well... -TD

For the money your probably better off with a SVS Ultra unless you live in Austraila where Krix is based out of. However, if you want Ultra like performance for about half the cost of one do the Infinity Kappa build.

There are numerous posts on DIY subs in the DIY area.

Wmax, Aversfi(probably mispelled) and TLS Guy are all very knowledgeable and have many posts with numerous idea and examples.

I would not suggest a Dayton plate amp because they told me the wattage ratings are greatly exaggerated. If you want to use a plate amp then I suggest you look at a Bash amp. They tend to hold their ratings the best. However a Behringer EP2500 with the quiet fan mod. Is widely used and loved by many DIY subs. Paired with a DCX2496 you get great results.

I do suggest the Kappa plan if you can find the right sub in you area. Go to the DIY area and read like crazy. You will learn so much. I have grown a lot in my understanding of this passion by reading there.

It was my first build and I enjoyed doing it. It sounds fantastic and was worth the work. Check it out here...http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/exodus-audio/14208-shiva-x-sub-build.html

tcarcio - very nice looking sub!
just out of curiosity how much did it end up costing for everything (all materials included)

would i be better suited to ported or sealed im not really sure of the listening difference (i do understand one has a port and one doesnt) but would like to know is there much difference in sound and if so which is better suited to most people ?

Thanks

Well I had the Ep-2500 amp but the build itself came to just over $200.00 but I got the shiva on sale for $135.00. The difference in sealed and ported is usually the ported sub can go lower if tuned properly and it doesn't take as much power to get it to perform. I personally like the sound of my sealed sub and it goes low enough for me{at the moment} I got 106db at the crossover point,80hz, and it only varied slightly down to 20hz where it was 102db.

In all honesty it won't compete with a DIY sub. You can do better, but there are tradeoffs with any choice. And if you can hire someone to do it cheaper than go for it.

And if you are concerned about putting it together. You can hire that out to any car audio shop. If you weren't in Australia I would point you to someone. But hey you get to enjoy Bundaberg, watch footy and eat Cadbury. It probably costs a lot more to get subs shipped than Cherry Ripes to here. But each is worth it. SVS makes very good commercial subs. Just make sure you get 2. :D

Build 2 of those:D

It isn't that difficult to make the boxes if you have the tools and space. I bet a local cabinet maker could build the box and finish it for you.
