I've never been a glass half full guy or a half empty guy. I've always been an "it is what it is guy". That has officially change. The glass from now to eternity is always going to be half empty or completely empty.
I work for a local utility company in the mid-west. Due to the recent ice storms and now wind storms I was asked to go to the western part of the state to assist in the power restoration process. I try to stay away from restoration but in instances like this, it is hard to pass up due to the money. Especially since I am recently married and we are looking to sell my house relocate closer to were we grew up. Anyways, was told to pack for 5 days.
Whenever we arrived, due to the power outage, we did not have any cell phone service for our company phones. Lucky for me (so I thought) I had just gotten a new Blackberry Storm two days before and Verizon was working. Unfortunate for me, my local credit union did not have that number. The first night I tried using my debit card to buy some beer to take the edge off and for some reason it didn't work. A day or two later, I tried the same thing with the same result. Eventually I ended up trying to buy beer in a gas station only to have the clerk tell me there is a fraud alert on my card in which I called my wife and asked her to check on-line for something fishy. Well wouldn't you know it, I had $1300 in fraudulent charges from some bastard in Texas on my card due to a security breach in a credit card clearing house and my credit union cancelled the card. They had tried contacting me to confirm purchases but since I didn't have service to my phone they couldn't. Strike one. Looks like from here on out, I have to use my credit card.
Well the next day my wife calls (this one really hurts) me and tells me that my TV made a loud popping noise and wouldn't work anymore. Now I have been looking for an excuse to get a bigger/ better tv for awhile now so this one really still stings. I tell her to do what she needs to do. Especially since her parents are staying over our place due to there lack of electricity and her dad being sick. So instead of me enjoying the research and thrill of buying a new tv....my wife does it for me. To her credit, she wanted to wait till I got home but I told her that I trusted her.
As if all that wasn't bad enough, I decided to drown my sorrows a bit and enjoy a nice Sam Adams since it was available and didn't know when I would get to enjoy a nice beer in the near future. Well, stupid me pays the bill and follows everyone else out of the restaurant only to realize a day later that I forgot my credit card and was now 100 miles away. Now I had to cancel my credit card and had no source of cash other than bumming money until I could get home.
Now, after 17 consecutive 16+ hour days, watching the Super Bowl on a 13 inch tv in a dry county and getting *****ed at for not having the lights on, I am finally home, drinking a GOOD beer (EKU 28), looking forward for some "one on one" time with my wife, only get a email from one of my teachers ( I going back to school online) saying that I probably won't be able to make up my missed work since I'm already so far behind. So unless I can somehow get a deferral I have 2 classes and about $2500 in tuition that won't get reimbursed unless I get a deferral or get the my company to cover an incomplete.
So if anyone sees this Murphy guy, give him a good b*tch slap for me would ya?
