Project looks pretty good man, I'll be watching this closely.. I'm pretty excited to see what you think of the finished product. I havent found a review yet. The price is very attractive...

I have played with this for a while. I would not build a 0.6 cu.ft box, because the response starts to roll off in the mid range. I have found that 0.44 cu. ft. box will give you an F3 of 48 Hz. That box will actually appear to have more bass than a 0.6 cu. ft. box. It tunes with a 2" diameter port 9" inches long.

I consider this the optimal box.

I think you said you were going to use this for gaming. You need to be aware that this driver is small and is severely displacement limited between 50 and 100 Hz. So for gaming I suspect you will need a sub to avoid bottoming the drivers and destroying them. A crossover between 90 and 100 Hz should be optimal, if you want high spl. below 100 Hz. So having an F3 around 50 Hz will be perfect for that.
I'm wondering if this would be a true upgrade for me then. My Center crosses at 70hz on the Audyssey and my fronts at 80hz.

80 Hz or 90 Hz there is not much difference. I just used the rule of thumb setting the crossover at F3 X 2. Don't forget those graphs for cone displacement are at full power. If you are sensible with the volume control. then you will not be xmax limited. You don't know of you current speakers graph of cone displacement would be better or worse.

I can tell you those Vifa drivers play pretty loud in practice. You can destroy anything if you have a will to.

Baffles! Well, one of them.

I think it looks ok considering the holes were cut by hand with a jigsaw. Also, router work was done with one I got for 10$ at a swap meet with a home made circle jig. Oh yeah, never used a router before either. :D Odd looking circles I think are just some weird perspective.

Overall, the cabinets are pretty rough. It's going to take a lot of sanding to get them looking good with paint.

No kidding! The humungoid gap in the baseboard miter ... not so good. :D

I know, everyone's a critic. :)
LOL, yeah I didn't build that though. There were some obvious corners cut in the construction of my house. The baseboards are actually some kind of pressed cardboard. I might put in some laminate flooring and replace the baseboards with real wood at some point.

Yeah lol I realized that. And at my volumes I doubt it would do any damage. I have extremely sensitive hearing. I listen at -50 db for music usually and -34 for movies.

My Madisound order came today. Unfortunately my parts express order with the terminals and accoustic foam won't be delivered until thursday. The Madisound order was packed very well, and the first thing that I noticed was just how heavy the tweeters were. Quality on everything seemed high.

My homemade pvc pipe port.

Drivers test fit in the baffle. I think the gap arouund the tweeter could have been smaller. Next time I will also make sure my hands are clean before handling the drivers

My parts express order arrived today. I made a mistake by not ordering enough accoustic foam. I didn't measure out how much I need and only ordered one sheet. I don't really want to make another order for just one sheet since they send it in a large box and I after shipping I would be paying way too much for just one sheet.

This is what I ordered:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-520

Where should I put the foam to make the best use of what I do have? The brace in the cabinet runs between the woofer and tweeter cutouts. I have enough foam to line the inside of both boxes around the tweeter or woofer, but not both. I could also put foam in the back of both cabinets behind both drivers. Thoughts on this?

You need to cover half of the internal surface only. Make sure you cover the entire back wall behind the woofer.

I've got speakers!

I finally finished them up today, well, sort of. I still need to sand/paint, but I mounted the drivers and was able to listen to them for a few minutes. Wow, I'm really impressed with these speakers. It's not saying much, but these are the best sounding speakers I have ever owned. They're exceptionally clear and neutral sounding. I was already picking out subtle details I hadn't heard in some of my music before. I wish I had bought a couple more sets (and my carpentry skills were better to do these justice), they sound better than my HT speakers (JBL venues), and blend beautifully with my Kappa DIY sub. I'm grinning ear to ear :D:D:D

I've got some long hours of sanding ahead of me, hopefully I can finish them up this weekend. I was so excited I forgot to take pictures too. Pictures to hopefully follow later this weekend.
