First Blu-ray Player help....

Hey guys, I'm considering venturing into Blu Ray at long last, I'm currently running films through my 360, not ideal, I know. I could get the Panasonic DMPBD35 for £190 (sorry, not sure exactly what that is in USD), I'd be running it through a Samsung LE40R7 (1080i), the audio would be coming through my seperates (2 floorstanders, no sub or 5.1 etc). From the reviews I've read it seems that's it's an extremely good player for my low budget, any thoughts? :)

Thanks in advance.

You would be correct! The Panasonic BD35 is a superb Blu-ray player. You noted you have a xbox 360 so unless you want to play PS3 exclusive games such as Metal Gear, Resistance etc I would go with the Panny (since you already got the gaming aspect covered).

One final question, does your receiver pass audio through HDMI?

Thank you, and yeah I have no plans on getting a PS3, happy with my 360...:D

My amplifier is a Rotal RA-01, just letting you know this since I'm not sure about the answer to your question :(

Whilst I wait on an answer to that one, I'll throw in a couple more questions! When I purchase the Blu Ray player (which should be tommorow) I'll also purchase whatever cabling I'll need to set it up, now I need to run it through my amp so the sound goes through my speakers and not the television, what kind of cable do I purchase for this? And I'll also need to buy a HDMI cable right? How much should I be looking to spend on each roughly?

Thanks in advance :)

Sorry for the spam, another question though, I just called my local Richer Sounds, and they have none left sadly, so it's off to Amazon I go!

I'm confuse though, there seems to be 2 different versions on Amazon, with £10.00 difference....

What's the difference? Which one am I after? :) Thanks again!

I have never used Amazon before so I am not that familiar with purchasing stuff from them. What I did notice is one link says dispatched and sold by Audio Vision and the other says dispatched and sold by Amazon.co.uk. The link entitled Panasonic DMP-BD35EB-K Profile 2 Blu-ray Disc Player with BD Live is the one I would order from because it has more information available, reviews, and it is also sold by Amazon.

What pre-pro are you using with the Rotel amp?

That's what I thought too, thanks I'll order that one as soon as I find out which cables I also need to order alongside with it :)

Do you mean what pre-amp I'm running with it? The amp has a pre-amp build it, so I don't run one with it...I'm not very knowledgeable compared to most here so I hope what I just said was correct+made sense :p

You probably mean a 2-ch "integrated". If I am right, there isn't much choice for connections anyways. Most integrateds only have 2-ch analog RCA inputs.

Sorry integrated that's what I meant :)

Maybe I should invest my money into a new amplifier first and get the Player after? I was planning on an amplifier upgrade anyway, but the thing is I'd only have £250 tops to spend on an amplifier, could I get a worthwhile upgrade from my RA-01 for that sort of cash?

Thanks in advance.

If you don't have a 5.1 or 7.1 audio system yet you can always get one later as long as you understand until then you will not be able to take advantage of the superb audio capability of the DMPBD35EBK. At this price point the Panny is probably unbeatable.

Thanks for the information Peng!

Hmmm, ok the thing is (I'm being honest here), I do have a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze B2's (these were my old speakers), would they make good rear speakers? Then I could buy the Tannoy Mercury Custom center speaker that matches my Tannoy F4 floorstanders, then I would need to buy a sub, guessing £200-250 price range to go with the rest of my setup?

Sorry for all the questions :(

Guys I'm going to make a new thread in a seperate section about all this, as I have now decided to to get the Panny player (just not getting it straight away), and I don't want to continue filling this thread with non Blu Ray questions, thank you all for the help you gave me! :)
