I'm looking to pick up a sub for under 250 USD, about 300 CDN. So far I'm taking a serious look at the T-250 from TSC ( http://www.thespeakercompany.com/T250-Subwoofer-P103C17.aspx ).

Does anyone else have a better option for the same amount of money? Keep in mind TSC does ship to Canada for free, which is near impossible to find.

The room I am housing my home theatre is currently under construction. It's going to be a very very large room, however the listening area will be quite small, 10'X15'. The dimensions of the room are 35'X65'.

Dayton SUB-120 HT Series 12" 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer for $155

Obviously even the lowest price SVs and Hsu subs are above your price range.

A very good inexpensive sub that is recommended most often as a very good starting sub is the Dayton SUB-120 HT Series 12" 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer for $155

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-635

The Dayton Audio SUB-120 is the perfect subwoofer for medium to large home theaters or listening rooms. A 150 watt amp, long-throw front firing 12" driver, and dual rear ports produce impressively deep and powerful bass. The amplifier features high and low level inputs, filtered high and low level outputs, phase switch, volume control, auto on/off (activated by an input signal) and a variable 12 dB/octave electronic low pass filter. This subwoofer reproduces serious low-frequency bass that will rival the performance of much more expensive subwoofers. Specifications: *12" long throw woofer *150 watt amp *Low pass filter: 40~180 Hz, 12 dB/octave *Frequency response: 25-180 Hz *Exterior dimensions: 14-3/4" W x 17-5/8" H x 18" D.
House shaking power
Front firing 12" long-throw woofer
150 watt amplifier
Unobtrusive "Black Ash" finish

I think you might be happier with this one; don't let the lower power of 150 watts fool you.

Good luck!

You could likely DIY something pretty good for $250 as well.

Dayton 240 watt plate amp: $115
Cabinet materials: $50 (wood, paint, glue)

That leaves a decent amount left over for a driver, plenty of bargains can be found on ebay for used/discontinued drivers.

I don't think the dayton amps are very good. Rarely do they meet their specs,

If you use MDF the materials of a DIy would be around 50, but if you use 3/4" birch you get better performance, better quality, and better looks.IMO That being said birch costs about 3 times the price of MDF. So MDF would be a way to cheapen the cost. I suggest not going with a plate amp, but it's up to you. Not sure what driver to get with 250 though. I think that's simply to low of a budget to pull off a DIY.

For 250.00 hummmmmmmmm

Since I enjoy budget subs,

There are a couple to look at minus TSC, I think you should look at the

Premier Acoustic PA-120 (220.00 shipped). You can get it off Ebay. The reviews I have read are saying it is better then the Bic-h100 and is dated with better driver / amp.

I heavily doubt that the amp it has on it is even close to 600 watts.

Only info I gathered up that 'some' are having problems with is humm on the amp when not in use. One claimed it was an ground on the electric outlet that was bad (or something like that)

good luck.

It is not $220 shipped to Canada.

Cheapest to Canada was around 350 CDN.

Amazon has the little 10" Polk PSW10 right now for only like $100 or less. You could then buy two of them and I bet the shipping is free.

I have one at home and they are surpisingly good little subs. Especially for the price.

I can't help but ask, why you're buying artificial trees.

I sorry I don't have a suggestion other than maybe the Acculine A Sub. (I have not hear this sub. just read some things) My question is do you have a plan on where the sub will be located? That room is huge and getting good bass let alone pressurizing it will be tuff on the cheap and the only way that an inexpensive sub might be satisfactory to you is very near field.

Just curious,

I guess it just depends on where you buy it. My local home depot sells 3/4 MDF for abut $25 a sheet, birch is about $35 a sheet.
Whats a sheets measurment?

Not if you bought a lifetime supply of harp:eek:

The acculine is a good value sub, just not sure of shipping. The tsc subs provide a good track record with their "original" designs. And the dayton works good as well, and at its low price whats the big deal with shipping?
