SVS upgrade from Velodyne.

If anyone has experience with the velodyne cht12 compared to the svs PB12-NSD could you tell me your thoughts.Looking to make this upgrade if it's enough for a 2200 cu.ft. open concept room.Or do I need to step up to the PB12+ to warrant the upgrade?need help!Velodyne CHT12 is too boomy imo.

Welcome to the forum!

In addition to any input that you get here, I'd recommend contacting SVS' customer service about your question regarding which sub would be appropriate for your room. In my experience (both personal and what I've read), they have been straight shooters and haven't tried to sell someone a sub that's more than they need/want.

Regarding the boominess of your current sub, it might be a function of placement within your room (or just the acoustics of the room). You might want to check out the Audioholics "Tips & Tricks" section on "Get Good Bass." There are some nice articles there. You might find that you can improve the performance of your current sub enough that you no longer want a new one.

Adam is correct...SVS are very nonbiased and would love to steer you in the right direction concerning a purchase. I like SVS due to quality/performance ratio that few, if any, can approach. Why pay more for same or less? Customer service is top notch and warranty is very competitive. I believe you have a free trial period on products as well...don't like it...send it back for refund. Nothing to lose...much to gain. Best to ya'

One final note...if the velo is too boomy, why even consider. The svs units are not. I own one and have listened to a couple different models. It always amazes me to think to myself that, "this costs what?...and does this?"

I found the exact oposite to be true...my SVS was down right horrible for music, HT a different story. Moved up to Velo & problem solved. But you are correct, SVS has outstanding CS & will walk you thru the process according to your room needs. Give them a try with there 30 day trial & listen for yourself. SVS might be the ticket for you.

My first SVS purchase was the PB-12 Ultra, in which I went from the Velodyne HGS-10 to the SVS. The SVS was every bit as impressive as the Velo with music and then some. The Velo was no match on movies of course due to the larger driver. Music was the most telling difference though. I expected the Velo to be ahead there slightly. The SVS proved my expectations incorrect though.

I have since gone the DIY route with a JL Audio 12W7 which is even better, especially musically.

My Ultra is still for sale by the way . It is a very nice sub and still am impressed with many of it's capabilities.

Velodyne HGS-10 vs SVS

I have a friend that owned a Velodyne HGS-10 and switched to a SVS. Loved he SVS and thought the switch made a big difference for him. Based on hearing the diff I went and bought a SVS PB-10. No regrets here.

I will have to give my $.02 worth as well...I previously owned a Velodyne SPL-1500r and it was a very competent sub for music and movies. I upgraded from that unit to the PB13-Ultra (granted different than what you are considering), and the Ultra is just as clear and musical as the sealed Velo and when it comes to HT there is NO contest the Ultra kills the Velo...

Given that the CHT-12 is a series I remember seeing in Circuit City what has to be at least 5 years ago--I would have to say the PB12-nsd would be a significantly better subwoofer and stepping up to the PB12+ would be a whole other world of bass reproduction...

I went from a Velodyne DLS-3750R to a 20-39PC+ and never looked back. The SVS beats the Velodyne in every way.

Not sure where you are in your savings, but SVS has a PB12+ in the B-stock section for $1,049--it is the oak finish however. I would definitely keep my eye on the B-stock as you can pick up some good deals that way. I got my rosenut PB13 from there for $1399. You will definitely be floored with the difference going with the PB+ for sure....
