I currently have the sony bdp-s350 blueray player. My current receiver does not support TrueHD or DTS-HD MA.

I am thinking of purchasing the Yamaha RX-Z7 receiver and trying to verify if I will be able to receive TrueHD or DTS-HD MA from the Sony Blueray player.

I've read that the Sony Blueray can not decode TrueHD or DTS-HD MA on the device itself.

Does anyone know if I will be OK as the Yammy will be able to accept and decode TrueHD or DTS-HD MA ?

Hi. The Sony BDP-S350 can decode Dolby TrueHD, but it can't decode DTS-HD MA. It can pass both out as bitstream, though.

The Yamaha RX-Z7 can indeed decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA, so it would work just fine with your blu-ray player. There are several less expensive receivers that can also decode those codecs, if you were interested.

The 350 will internally decode Dolby TrueHD but not DTS-MA. It will bitsteam both to a player that can decode.
With the Z7, the best option is to set the player to bitstream over HDMI and let the Z7 decode it. The Yamaha will likely have better decoders than the Sony player.
