Need New pre-amp

Hi all, I want to buy a new preamp, as mine is now 38 years old! I really don't want to spend more than $850.00. I want to buy new, any suggestions? I went the Emotiva route, and that did not work out.

He had problems with intermittent remote volume control, and he thought the phono section of the RSP-2 was too noisy (hiss) at full volume. His 38yo pre is quieter. I think Emotiva replaced his unit once.

My system: I have a Musichall MMf7 table with a Shure V15 type 3 cartridge.
I'm currently running a mint Crown IC-150 preamp that feeds a new Crown XTI-2000 power amp. My cd source is a Harman Kardon CDR-26, and a Nakamichi (not sure what model) cd player. I still have a very old Pioneer TX 9500 tuner(also mint). MY headphone are AKG K701's being fed by a WOOAudio WA6 tube amplifier ( pure audio bliss ). Now this next one I hope doesn't start a giant flame war. My speakers are dare I say Bose 901 series 6's. I like them. I am looking into ordering Paradigm Studio 100's, but that's down the road. Fire away!

And the OP couldn't explain this for what reason? It's not to much to ask for detail. ANY detail.

How about " I have a vehicle that is 38 years old. I need to replace it. I have $25K what vehicle should I get?"

And then seemingly refuse to provide any more information for needs assessment.

What would you think of that person? I am sure it wouldn't be positive.

I used to own an IC-150 pre-amp along with the DC-150A and DC-300A and the matching Crown VU Meter.

What is it that you are experiencing with the IC-150? Is it dead, are the control pots noisy (that is what happened to mine)?

Cmon' you have to explain your ENTIRE situation.

I think you the guy that wanted the remote as reason to replace your crown IC 150. I would continue to get out of chair, and replace your speakers first.

If you can find a Shure V 15 xmr you will notice significant improvement. Unfortunately they just about never come up. I have owned every single model of the Shure V series and in my view the V III was the weakest of the lot.

This is the closest equivalent to the xmr.

If you are into vinyl you should really try and find a Quad 44. There is no remote, but well worth the trouble of getting out of your chair.

I have Quad pre amps under each turntable, to keep the leads short, and the pre amps connect via the switch bus to the tape input of my Rotel preamp and that does have a remote.

Actually The IC-150 works flawlessly! I just wanted to update the preamp so I can have a remote, and take advantage of new technology. I'm sure there must be improvements in even the cheapest preamps over 38 years.

You will have no improvement in audio quality with a new preamp, except for vinyl if you were to get a Quad 44, the reason is that it has unique abilities to carefully match to any cartridge and lead set.

Then keep your vinyl player hooked to the IC-150 and then run the IC-150 out put to your new Pre-Pro...

Just set and forget the IC-150. It's a clean design. I would doubt by keeping it inline that it is going to kill the sound quality.
