Pushed in tweeter OK?

A pair of used Energy C-6s are being sold locally. One one of them, the tweeter was pushed in, but suppossedly sounds fine. Assuming there's no tear, is this a problem?

I recall that the dust caps on larger drivers are fine if they are pushed in, but I don't recall if this applies to tweeters where it is the actual driver that's pushed in.

Any thoughts?

I posted a fix on AVS.com and what was funny is that although people laughed at first, when they tried it out, they found it worked like a charm and cost nothing to do. (one member even posted pics of doing it and how essy it was to do) First take a tiolet paper cardboard roll (when all the TP is off. Place one end of the cardboard roll over the tweeter and press down against the board of the speaker (making a seal, make sure the holder doesnt touch the tweeter but covers it) then with your mouth, suck on the other end of the toilet paper roll (you have to suck hard) but the tweeter will pop right back out, with no damage at all to the tweeter. It's fast, quick and easy and doesnt cost anything.

I tried a paper twoel holder, but that was too long, then used a tiolet paper holder and that worked like a charm. People suggested a vacuum attachment but with the vacuum people were unsure of how much suction it would have. With your mouth, you control how much suction.

LOL, I'm waiting for the jokes to start flying in.

More seriously, I think someone used tape/adhesive and pulled. I'm probably misremembering. I'll quickly research right now. Wait nm, it was probably for a dustcap. regardless, i'll go look.

ok: it seems my preliminary research leads me to believe it would need a replacement tweeter. You can call Energy to see how much one costs.

Yeah the commets on AVS were pretty funny also, but the OP gave my idea a try and said it worked great and even posted before and after pics. Said it was very simple and thanked me profusely about this simple trick. Although I did love the comments that followed, everything from speaker loving to the guy who blacked out the tiolet paper roll so that it looked dirty. :D

I doubt that would work. I don't think you'd get enough suction with a manual BP and an electric one would be as hazardous as a vacuum in regards to over doing it.

But by all means, please try. And let us know what the wife says. Extra rep points if you can post a video of her response. ;)

I really love my speakers, I just don't know if I'm ready to take things to that level.

Well I discovered this "trick" when I bought some used DefTech BP10's and found out the tweeters on both of them had been pushed in, so while thinking of a way to pop them back out without spending money and thinking a vacuum may damage the tweeter, I first tried the paper towel roll trick but because it was too long, it hinderd the suction (i should mention that my GF saw this and asked if she had anything to be worried about) I then tried the tiolet paper roll and it was a perfect fit over the tweeter and just long enough to get the proper suction. I know, i know I have heard em all and the image it generates. But it does indeed work and costs nothing and both my BP10's tweets popped out with no visable damage whatsoever.

edmcanuck-we have a member at S&V that we tease for his fascination of port plugs.

This is cracking me up, I may be willing to push in one of my tweeter just to try it.
