Looking at the Intimus 4T Grand SD with a set of 5DB surrounds, sitting about 8-10 feet away. Yes I want to create a 7.1 surround environment. Although I have not made up my mind, but this is the ballpark I am in. Any advice would be appreciated.
Low sensitivity, as is typical with Aperion product. If you want anything in the ballpark of reference volumes, you will need an outboard amp with these speakers, or at least that is my impression.
I also just wonder about 4" drivers. I mean... outside of coupling them to individual subs per speaker.
Also, if it was ME, as I say repeatedly, if I actually was to use a flat panel as my primary HT, I'd really see what I could do to use three identical speakers, upright, same plane. Search Timmy's thread in the general AV section for more of my thoughts, if you are curious. Anyways, it depends on the height of your display, as far as the ability to do so.
Now, Aperions have a very good reputation, but there are so many brands and models out there. This is Audioholics, and
not Videoholics. We would suggest that you listen to as many speakers as you could. Those more knowledgable would recommend narrowing down the auditioning field to those speakers that actually measured well. However, even experts can bicker sometimes about what measures well, so I just use dem ears.
Start reading up on speaker threads. The most common advice we give to noobs here is to choose the speakers first. Do you buy a DVD player, and then look for a TV to match it? Of course not. Display gives you the video, and speakers give you the audio. Cheers.
