My center speaker sits on my sub. My sub is around 22" high and so acts like a good stand for the center channel. If there's an actually problem with sound I'm not hearing it. Just make sure your speakers are on some good rubber feet and not sitting directly on the sub.

If you are running two subs and placing the speakers on top puts them at the correct height then that is where they belong assuming you are running a good bass management system.

ok. but what i am concerned about. is that the sub may rattle the bookshelf to the point that would cause it to distort. front firing drivers, if that makes a difference.

What subwoofers and speakers are we talking about?

I'm wondering if the vibration would loosen the solder joints in the speaker crossover.
The vibration from the sub is much more than the speaker would ever experience on it's own.

Always thought sub plate-amps were epoxy filled to protect the components.

If it rattles the speaker sitting on top. You can always use a bass trap as a cushion between the bookshelf and sub. To be honest I doubt it would hurt. I plan to use my subs as bookshelves whenever I finally get around to building them.

With a properly designed sub, your cabinet should not vibrate. You should be just fine putting bookselves on top of subs.

The advantage of having the sub separate from your mains is that it gives you more flexibility in placement. The best place for your mains is not always the same as for your sub.

Agreed A crawl test will give you the best place. But with two subs you do have more flexibility.

I have bookshelves on top of my subs in my bedroom due to space restraints and have no issues. The speakers don't vibrate at all and I have an auralex mopads between them so I don't have any scratches and to aim the bookshelves up a bit.
