Amp Placment???

I got a Emotiva XPA-3 and was wondering if anyone would see a problem with me placing it on top of my SVS sub, my sub is very solid and does not viberate much.

Hmmm, don't think I'd want to do that. Maybe you could get another stand that would accomodate it. It does look like your space is a little tight with your new addition.

Yes it is, maybe some kind of isolation pads or something. It would be a perfect fit and look decent.

I would not recommend it, as vibrations over time will not do the amplifier any good. If it is well made and you are lucky, it may never be a problem, but I would not take the risk of sending it to an early grave. It would be better to put it elsewhere.

By the way, from reading another thread, is this the same amp that went up in smoke? If so, I doubt the vibration was a part of that, as it would take a while to cause a problem from some vibrations, unless the amplifier was incompetently made.

Yes it is the same amp, it might of had 20 min of play time so i would guess your right. But when i get my new one back i will find a better spot for it, that is after i get everything worked out with what is wrong with my system

As for your amp delemna, the only thing I can think of from the pics is putting the amp behind the speakers on the carpet out of view. Or buy a entertainment center with more options for item placement.

Me personally, cause I'm cheap, would just put the amp out of sight.

It should be fine on the Sub, a good sub doesn't vibrate itself, it vibrates everything around it.

Agreed, You could always do what Dawg did and throw a slab of granite on top of your sub, this should make for a solid surface to put it on. Throw a quarter on top of your sub and see how much it moves. If it goes crazy throw a slab of granite on it and then try the quarter test again. I'm just talking out of my butt, but its worth a try

Most subs have cheaper built amp placed inside of them. So I don't see a problem setting one on top. Though it might effect acoustics.

Given that the amp is almost always the first thing to go in a subwoofer, I wouldn't regard that as a sign that it is okay at all to have an amplifier there. In fact, it might very well explain why so many of them are so unreliable, which is otherwise odd, given the general reliability of electronics.

While your current TV stand is nice maybe it's time for a new one. But I would change mine out in a heat beat if I could get the wife to agree
