Keyboardist Billly Powell died at his home early Wed morning. Looks like Gary Rossington is the only survivng member left still playing with the band.

Duke,

Wasn't Rickey Medlocke part of the original band...and then left right away to form Blackfoot?

But we keep losing wonderfully talented musicians at much too young an age. It's a hard life they've chosen.

RIP, Billy.

With the amount of drinking and drugs some of these rock stars have done (e.g. Keith Richards) I'm surprised some of them are still able to function!!

Sad to hear of Billy's passing....

Yeah, Ricky played some on their early tracks, like "Down South Jukin" and was replaced by Artimus Pyle. Artie is still kickin', but not currently a member of the band. Agreed on losing many talented musicians and actors as well. Sometimes if you live hard you die young.

It said he was an original member? I though he started off as a "roadie" and the late Ronnie Van Vant heard him do a rendition of "Freebird" on keyboards and invited Billy Powell into the fold. Although I became more of a Skynyrd fan later in life, the song "Simple man" is still one of my fav's!:)

RIP, Billy Powell :(
