This has had to have come up --where an interconect differs on the units.I have seen an adaptor that simply passes the coax in and toslink female out--then a m/m toslink hooks you up. I don't know if this direction passes the digital signal without having to convert to light images? Is it necessary to convert when adapting the other way? Do i have to buy the $25? adaptor to interconnect these devices that i'm running thru an xbox 5.1---tia Brent

I'm unclear as to what you're asking.

But, yep. They are out there and work. Most go both ways. If you need 'em, you need 'em.

digital coaxial out--connect to a toslink input??

I'm basically asking if the digital audio signal is passed thru this simple adaptor tht i saw online (coax to toslink) I read further that the signal passes without needing a conversion to light images---is this true? I'm trying to connect a coaxial dig out on my dvd to the optical toslink in on my xbox 5.1. If i need the conversion adaptor then i need one! I was under the impression that a coax to toslink simple/cheap adaptor --could work without going to an unnecessary expense ---Does anyone know if i have to buy the adaptor or not?

Nope. You can't convert from electrical to optical or vice-versa by simply having a cable with two different connectors on the end. But no worry, there are plenty of coax to toslink conversion devices available.

Thanks--That clears that up! someone had a simple adaptor to make the connection and stated that the electrical signal passed thru without a necessary conversion to light---unlike the signal going the other way (toslink to coax) I'll see Monoprice for the best price converter---Can't believe everything you read!!
