I'm finally wrapping up my first DIY sub. The box is finished (no pics, it looks like crap ) and I'm waiting for the driver to get here and still deciding on what amp to use. I can get a good price on one of these (750 watts RMS at 4 ohm bridged):

Think that will do the job? I'm having trouble finding any info/reviews on these amps...are they any good? The behringers are a tad out of my price range for what I had budgeted for this project.

It seems no one knows anything about these amps. I've posted on 4 different forums looking for opinions on them. I've decided to gamble that it will be enough to drive my DIY sub. Most sites are selling this amp for ~$300 and I was able to pick up an open box for less then half that, which is considerably less then the behringer 1500/2500 and will keep me within budget for this project. Is there an easy way to test what the actual output on the amp is once I get it?

Why does the box look like crap? Could you put laminate on it?

It looks like crap for a few reasons...
First, this was a budget build and I didn't already own a circular saw so to keep costs down I bought the $30 Ryobi from Home Depot. I'm pretty inexperienced as far as woodworking goes also. To make transporting the wood easier, I also bought the precut 2x4 foot pieces of MDF, rather then buying the whole sheet. I assumed these pieces were exactly 2x4 feet. When things didn't line up perfectly I realized some of the sheets I bought were off by 1/8 inch or so. All of these factors contributed to my finished box not looking the best. I did what I could with wood filler, but I think I just made things worse. Oh well, it sounds really good and it mostly sits underneath a table. I also made the driver cutout a hair too small and had to use the dremel to make it fit. Still need to clean that up and repaint.

I posted these pics in another thread about my build. Others have pointed out that I made my port too small as well. I think at the volumes I listen at it won't be much of an issue though. All things considered I am very happy with how my first DIY project turned out.

UPS says my Gemini amp should be here monday, I've been running the sub with an Audiosource amp 100 in the meantime. I'll update with how the Gemini works out once I get it up and running.

I was wondering who took my tv stand! Good thing I no longer need it.;)

The sub actually looks very well done.

I think being off by an 8th is ok. It's still the best sub for the price.
