I am currently in the market for a 50 or 52 inch TV, and am debating the Panasonic Plasma versus a Mitsu LCD, Samsung A650, or the Sony XBR6.
The reason I am still considering the LCD are,
1. Brighter panel in a room with windows. Plasmas seem to reflect light.
2. Weight is less
3. Motion blur not an issue on 120hz TVs.
4. still worry about burn in.
I realize the Plasma is better color wise, but I am not sure that LCD is that far behind. I bought a 42 inch Hitachi Plasma last year, and left my Playstation 3 on while it was updating and came back to some burn in. However, after wiping the screen, the burn in was gone. Image retention still seems to be a concern. I didn't believe this would happen due to the TV having all the most recent screen saving tech, rotating pixels and all that crap. I am concerned about coming home and finding out my wife left Elmo on while getting kids out the door, and I will have burnt in the Elmo DVD menu.
I believe ultimately LCD with kill off Plasma. There are a lot of people out there that bought Plasma in the early days, and are now buying strictly LCD because of their previous experience.
Correct me on my concerns. I would like to buy Panasonic, I have had incredible luck with their products, and have a 26 inch LCD from them that is fantastic. Everything is so well thought out.
