I'm not sure this is the right direction. Most people hate black bars period and I think this would just create more opportunities for the bars.

I think manufacturers should concentrate on putting out larger size LCD's and Plasmas. It's getting to the point where even 50" is seemingly small. The only reason I went my DLP is for the size. I believe I had 3 options for a 60" plus flatscreen and none were appealing either due to price or quality.

Looks interesting but I highly doubt they'll find much market interest for it - except for maybe the bleeding-edge videophiles that simply must have all the latest toys.

Agreed. With 21:9 AR, many movies will still get you bars on the top and bottom, let alone the sides. 2.35-2.40 and all the AR's between will still have bars on top and bottom. Perhaps thin, but there.

Runco has an in-wall RPTV. 2.35 AR. Again, bars on top and bottom on many movies. Woopdie doo, all for only $50,000?! Sign me up!

I agree, but they are very expensive. According to the Carton-Bale graph, you don't hit full benefit of 1080p on a 50" until you are 6.5' close.

Honestly, it depends on the pixel shape and the overscan. If this TV has a good bit of overscan, then 2.35/1 movies just might show up with no black bars. 2.76:1 movies are so rare that I don't think the makers of sets care right now.

Yes, people really do hate black bars that much--hence the sales of full screen DVD's, CIH projectors and anamorphic lenses for projectors.

There are a LOT of people who have rooms that cannot accommodate displays larger than 42" (or even 32"). Believe me, I tried to tell many people to go as big as they could. My 57" DLP seems small in my great room, but on the floor next to a person, I realize that it is still a large screen. Honestly, I wanted a 73" when I bought it but could not justify spending another $1k+.
