Rear Speakers, In Ceiling or In Wall?

I am just about to wire my walls for a 7.1 set up and I have to figure out the best lay out for my 2 rear speakers. I have the Boston Acoustics DSi-260 In-wall speakers. I have the ability to either:
1) Mount them downward in the wall OR
2) Mount them facing out in the wall toward the TV and L/R & C speakers

I appreciate your feedback and am seeking the best home theater experience.

I would say the best place is in wall.

1. You don't have to deal with insulation and those sorts of issues.

2. You get closer to the ideal speaker placement

3. You upgrading them will be much easier if they are in wall rather than in ceiling.

I have a balnk canvas right now and don't own the furniture and the walls are not in place yet so I have flexibilty in this regard. What is the best case senerio?

.....

I think it will all depend on the layout of the room. Where will the TV/monitor go? Now that you have that what type of seating and what is the wall configuration behind and to the left & right? Any walls have windows, fireplace, or any other structure that will limit wall speaker placement. In my case several of the above apply so I'm going with ceiling mount for my surrounds. While it may not be considered ideal by most it's the best solution for my current situation.

In addition to Don's comments:

lengthwise setup of room.

ample space between speakers and boundaries, listener and boundaries (with the most common culprit being the back wall).

try 38% room length in rectangular room for starters. tweak from there. once settled, you can then decide on screen size for desired viewing angle.

for 5.1, 110-135 degrees, so that side+rear areas can be straddled.

if 7.1, you have more freedom in bringing sides to 90 degrees, as rear area is now covered, and you now would have a more complete wrap.

some thoughts...
