introducing a tube amp for music into a home theater?

Is there a device that allows you to switch between amplifiers for music and home theater?

I have a yamaha rxv-2500 for my home theater and a mc240 tube amp that i like for music and would like to introduce into the system. i just get tired of having to undo the speaker wires each time to hook up to the tube amp.

I WOULD LOVE AN A/B SWITCH THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO KEEP EVERYTHING HOOKED UP 100% OF THE TIME

yes i know the DIY route but would rather have something that looks good.

Arrrgggg. I know that these exist, but I haven't found what I'm looking for on the internet. Sorry. Hopefully someone else will pop in with a link to something.

If we can't help you, you could always ask a local A/V shop what they use. Every one that I've been to has had the ability to select which amplifier is powering a given set of speakers (in addition to picking which set of speakers is being powered by a given amplifier).

yeah i was at my local Mac dealer and what he has allows him to select between many speakers.........

Those units will not work safely for a tube amp. Unlike solid state amps, tube amps CAN NOT be in an on state disconnected from the speakers. If they are, the output tubes are destroyed and even the output transformers can be burnt out. I have even seen output tubes explode when the amp is disconnected from the load.

If you do this then the tube amp, of it is on, will have to be connected to a dummy load. If you use this device, you will have to be very careful to switch off your tube amp before switching the speakers away from it.

Binding posts and banana plugs make it easiest. Place the binding posts in a conspicuous spot and if necessary, make it impossible to turn the tube amp on with no speakers connected.
