Couldn't turn up any direct comparison of these two highly regarded subs in my searching. Did I miss it or is there just nothing to find?

Thanks for all the great info - guess I should have searched PB13-Ultra, not just PC13-Ultra... ;)

I received my PC13-Ultra last night and did some basic setup on it, didn't want to put too much time into it as I have an RX-Z7 arriving this afternoon :D, and will be reconfiguring everything again anyway. I have to say my initial impressions is holy sh!t.

Was just curious what the thoughts were on the top of line SVS PC/PB vs the top Axiom unit.

I noticed that the PB13-Ultra seems to be much more common than the PC version and I wonder why that is? The SVS site states that the PC is more efficient and more cost effective design, other than personal preference of the different form factors, is there a reason most people seem to gone with the PB over the PC?

People like to waste money.

It is the form factor that some people don't like, and that is the reason for the price difference as well. Cylinders give a better bang for your buck, so if that is the main consideration, one will go with a cylinder. If one prefers to waste money, one will select a box.;)

The cylinders take up less floor space, but are taller. So which will be better for a particular person might be determined by that.

I personally don't think a huge box is all that attractive in a room, and don't see why anyone would think that a rectangular solid shape is more (or less) inherently attractive than a cylindrical shape, but there is no accounting for the taste of others.

Here is what SVS says about it:

I also recall reading on the SVS site that down firing is preferable, the PB-Ultra is front firing iirc. I like the cylinder personally, if the box could used as a table, I might reconsider, but somehow I think it would be a terrible table...

1) the PB measures and performs better than the PC
2) there are 4x more finishes available for the PB than the PC
3) front firing is cool!
4) free shipping on the PB makes the price difference closer (100 bucks diff)

Ah I didn't realize they were subsidizing the PB ;), I still prefer the PC but to each their own.

After having the chance to set up the RX-Z7, and spending some time calibrating the bass and speaker levels, all I can say is wow. I have a very difficult room, being that it is 15x25' with one side having a half wall & staircase that opens into the 1st floor, and the PC13-Ultra has no problem effortlessly filling my listening area with incredibly accurate, deep, tight, bass for both movies and audio.

Why do you say down firing is preferable? Where did SVS say that ?

Actually the box can be used as a table

Take Care!

Read it on the SVS site - http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-cyl-pcultra_new.cfm#downbase

"Want another example of thinking outside the box? How about something simple, like putting our drivers in the preferred downward firing position. Easier said than done in a slender column oriented subwoofer. But doing it this way makes for the most stable enclosure. Its low center of gravity and an inherently well-protected woofer mean years of rock-solid performance. Bass that goes this low, starts there too. Who needs a top-heavy sub? Get an SVS powered cylinder and forget that."

I'm sure it isn't a big difference either way, just something to consider.

Honestly, I'm a little puzzled by that claim. I'm not convinced it's entirely accurate. It's well published that the PB will go a couple of Hz deeper than the PC. But it doesn't really matter too much any way. The differences in SQ between the two types is negligible.

cdub, congrats on getting the new sub!
