Definitive Technology Supercube II, Velodyne Optimum 8, and B&W PV1. I know there are better performing and less expensive options out there but these are the ones I'm most interested in. How would these subs compare to eachother for 90% HT and 10% music? How woud you rank them? Thanks.

The Supercube II and Velodyne Optimum 8 are fairly decent. I am not sure about that B&W thing.

None of them would touch a DIY Perfect KAPPA at the same cost.

How big is your room?

I can't help you there, but the PV1 really doesn't look too good for theater.

Room is about 14x16. These subs appeal to me because they are very compact, asthetically pleasing and offer decent performance based on the reviews I've read. Also, it will be placed in a visible area of the room where space is limited. I'm not really a DIY kind of guy when it comes to subs.

I have put some effort into finding pre-fabricated sealed enclosures and drivers that will work superbly combined with proper amplifier. All you have to do is cut the holes to mount the driver and amplifier(or use external stand alone amplifier - which is a better choice). Putting together a sub in this fashion, when the right items are used(which I will be sure you do), results in far more capable and higher fidelity device than you get for the same cost in a retail product, even if it's from an I.D. source.
