UPS Battery Backup

Is something like this worth while to have as a cheaper alternative to a line conditioner? I was thinking of 2, one for the T.V. and one for the AVR.

I got my APC much cheaper in the best buy store about half the cost if I remember correctly.

You could probably go for a much lower end ups for your tv and avr. To be honest I don't know if there is a real benefit to one unless you have a projector. APC makes some good power strips that will probably keep your tv and avr safe for much cheaper.

But it can't hurt to have a UPS. If the power goes out you might have a few minutes of tv left.

I was running all my gear through a 1500 and it worked. I recently removed my AV receiver from it though, It was restricting the power demands. Now I only have my Projector, PS3, and DVR pluged into it. Just make sure you get one to meet your demands. the 1500 max wattage was 980 I think.

Never considered that it could restrict power demands. thx for that. Do you think these UPS devices actually help against brown outs, spikes or low voltage periods? I am not really looking at using it for a UPS, I am hopeing that it can help maintaine line power though

So I am looking at the APC power conditioners and the price is not to bad.

For just my AVR, which is the Pioneer Elite SC-07, which one of the below would work?

APC AV Black 1kVA H Type Power Conditioner 120V

or

APC AV Black 1.5kVA H Type Power Conditioner 120V


and, if I added my Carver TFM45 to this equation, which one would work then or should I have 2?

FYI, I have a 40 amp, 230V service run for just my A/V equipment and my sub has it's own 15amp service. thx

I'm a little confused. The fist one you posted a link to at the begining of the thread was a UPS. The other two appear to be just conditioners. Either of the later two will work fine. Do I think a UPS will work against brown outs and surges? Yes, There have been times when I am upstairs enjoying a movie and the power in the house goes out, all my gear stayed on and I never knew the power went out until I go downstairs to get a drink and all the lights are out My UPS has a beep on it but I couldn't hear it because everything is in an AV closet. So YES! A hefty UPS with line conditioning will be a lifesaver. The 1500 I use has trim and boost to regulate voltage at a constant level.

Yes, sorry the first post was based on UPS but I think that either way will work for me. I bought the first UPS as a cheaper alternative to power regulators as they were expensive at the time. I did not realize that they had dropped so much in price. I was just checking out the links that were posted by majorloser and Alex2507. Actually Tiger Direct.CA (for me eh!!) has good pricing on the APC AV 1000VA H Type Power Regulator ($179.00 Can.) I am starting to wonder about not having enough power to draw on if using these UPS's for the AVR or the Carver amp. I could easily buy 2 APC AV 1000VA H Type Power Regulator for the AV rack. Am I right to presume that a UPS big enough to supply power for my AVR would be a lot more money? How can I figure out how much power the SC-07 or the TFM45 can draw during peak loads?

You can usually get good deals on APC SmartUPS units. They have even tighter filtering then the AV based products and offer power regulating that the BackUPS units don't offer. I'm using a SmartUPS 1000VA unit for the rack and a SmartUPS 750VA unit for the projector.

Both of them were factory re-furb units from the APC Store.
