Infinity SW-12........any good?

I did try my center speaker on a 12" stool yesterday. I didn't notice a big difference, but I might buy a short stand that will allow it to be at the same height as the L/R speakers.

Unfortunately, the TV won't safely rest on the center speaker and I might still buy a wall mount and set the center speaker on top of the stand. However, that raises my TV up to a less than ideal height and will cost me about another $150 for a wall bracket.

As far as listening position, the center speaker is currently sitting in the center of the listening area. My chair is the Lazyboy recliner, and my wife generally sits on the loveseat at the opposite end. The optimum listening area is on the leather sofa.

The only real frustration was that I specifically ordered this stand due to it's extra large center area and my center speaker was going to go into the cabinet with the L/R speakers directly on either side.

Unfortunately, the specs in the catalog were wrong so the center speaker doesn't fit (25" versus 25 5/8" long). I would have returned the cabinet, but it is built very well. I would have returned the center speaker, but I really wanted a well built 3-way center speaker and this certainly fits the bill (35lbs). I might have been tempted to exchange this center and go with 3 matching towers, but Vanns ran out of the black Beta 40's and shipping the speaker back seemed like too much of a hassle.

Anyway, everything sounds great and if necessary I will just rest the center on a 12" stand. It is actually positioned in the center of the listening area and yet close to the screen so it works out pretty well.

Very nice there yates. As a few others have mentioned, I would figure out a way to mount the LCD on top of the C360. Or, perhaps a small shelf positioned just above the top of the C360 that is strong enough to hold your LCD. How big is your LCD and how much does it weigh? Lowe's has some shelfs that are quite strong and most are quite affordable. As Seth mentioned, you do need to move your front towers out from the rear wall some. I also would try to move them closer together. This should be easy once you move your C360 to the top of your cabinet. Looks very nice there. Congrats on your new gear.

I'm bumping this old thread as I am also curious about the Infinity subs. (I already know that certain Hsus, SVS's, AV123's, Velodynes and RBH's are good subs.) Hopefully you got the center positioned horizontally by now? Did you ever consider adding a second sub?

Owning an Infinity sub myself, I am always looking to hear positive things about them. However after doing lots of looking I find that other subs are almost always recommended over them at their price points.

Yeah, I'm a notorious grey market shopper, though. To me, Audiogon stuff is usually too much! The Infinity subs look like they're going for less than $200+shipping on Fleabay. $300+ gets me to the others. I do read you on the comparative ones mentioned above though. The cheapest SVS appears to be $429.

Dayton subs from Parts Express get the recommendations at the $200 range. I like the look of the Infinitys better and they seem to have better spec's. There must be something that the spec's don't show that get Dayton the reccomendations. The DIY option is always there, right? A little more money but way more performance.

I hope he shopped around for a wall mount. $150 is what OEM vendor's charge. $28 at Monoprice would get him the same thing. (Yes, I'm still a cheap !@#$*$#.)

I've been pretty happy with my Infinity 12s but they're the Intermezzo models and I've got three of them.

Hey Phil, this is another Phil. The Infinity sub you mentioned is really not all that bad. If its like the subs in my IL60's you'd probably be looking at the 80db range at 20Hz. The equilizer will help it musically and properly tuned they do pretty well in that department.

Like J_garcia said, though, sealed subs tend to be more musical, but are usually fairly expensive to get one to go into the 20Hz range. Personally, I'd look at Audiogon, buy something used or find one on close out. Here's a link for a Revel Concerta B12 on close out http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?homesubw&1234309766&/Revel-B12. Its a little above your price range, but it is obo and new in the box with warranty. It's sealed with a 650 watt amp and the reviews I've read are favorable for its musicality. It also has a equilizer, which, imho, all subs should have. It only rated to go down to 25Hz however. I did see a refurbed Prelude MTS for sale on Audiogon. A highly rated sealed sub that would get you into the 16Hz range, but at $650 its way above your budget. You could offer him $500. If I didn't already have a nice sub, that's what I'd do.

Hi Phil. This is an old thread of mine that someone decided to revive. Hence, I decided a long time ago not to go with this sub. Right now, I have dual Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Pluses and as such am quite happy. However, I do appreciate the info you posted. Best regards.

Nope-not yet. Things are still hectic here and at work. My Mom now has a blood-clot in her leg. Just one thing after another, but I am hanging in there. Hope all is well your way my friend.

Yeah, they put her on Coumadin. If I remember correctly, she will be on it for at least 6-months. Looks like some of the swelling has come down too which, of course, is a good sign. From one Phil to another, I appreciate your kind words.
