I have one and it is great, I found it easy to use and set-up. Make sure if you buy one that you upgrade the firmware if it doesn't have the new one alresdy. Good kuck.

I have the SMS-1 and it certainly works as advertised. I've achieved some outstanding results. However, I have been led to believe that the Behringer DCX unit is cheaper and will give results as good or better when used with free software, such as Room EQ Wizard.

DCX should be better but it is a lot more difficult to set up and use. I just sent mine back and will either order a SMS or just let my Audessy do what it will do.

Exactly. SMS1 new costs as much as my 52lb receiver that has XT included.

If I was to buy a nice consumer-oriented BM unit for the future, I'd sit tight until SVS releases their AS-EQ1. However, Im not sure just how much more resolution I would get. Implementations might vary from a certain product to another, and I suppose the greatest benefit of the SVS unit might be when one implements dual subs. As I have a single sub, I wouldn't even spend for this at this point.

Guess what, its going to use XT....

When we ran a graph of my set up with Audessy engaged it looked really bad. We EQ'd it flat at 15hz with DCX but I didn't like the difficult UI so I was going to get the SMS and just use Audessy in the meantime. However, I love how it sounds at this point with Audessy so I don't think I am doing anything else right now.

Personal or professional installation
Audyssey MultEQ ships as a standard feature in products from many of today's leading home-theater system manufacturers and can be self-installed. For even higher performance, a professional installation can be performed by an Audyssey-Certified Installer. Read Audyssey Installer Stories to learn more.

BTW, I have 2 SMS-1's and I find they are fantastic in eq'ing my subs, and results come fast and easy with little work.

There are other solutions such as computer assisted measurement and a Behringer EQ, but they are not nearly as easy as the SMS-1.
I did buy the equipment to take those measurements with computer, but haven't gotten the hang of it yet...

Is it kind of like the YPAO on my RX-V1600? If so, does the YPAO equalize the bass like the SMS-1?

YPAO will set a general SPL level for the sub, but it will not do the custom frequency tuning like the SMS-1.
