I believe the SVS that you have purchased has a deeper, flatter frequency response than the Dayton it is replacing, so you will be getting deeper sounds at closer to the right level than you did before. I do not regard that as overkill. If you ever listen to music with deep notes on a pipe organ, it will make a significant difference. I don't think there is a less expensive ready-made subwoofer that can match that SVS for depth of bass. And if there is, someone should point it out and recommend it to people looking for a budget subwoofer.
