some questions i have. hope i can ask them correctly.

digital and HDTV. are they the same ? if not will digital be a wide screen format, i figure yes.

Digital cable/satellite uses MPEG2 compression so the video is digital data as opposed to the actual analog signal. However, just because it is digital doesn't mean it is HD.

Cable still transmits SD video (480i) on many channels. HD video is 720p or 1080i (there are various flavors with different frames per second, but that is the gist of it.)

The aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9) is not dependent on digital vs analog although for the purposes of cable/satellite, a 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio will always be digital.
