It looks like you kept your cool. My family knows that if they don't want to hear me, they don't touch my audio gear. My music/theater room is OFF limits to my wife, dog, parents, brother, molly maids and pretty much everyone if I'm not there!!!! :D

I also unplug the system when I go on my trips;)

Whew, for a minute I thought this thread was going to be about getting a colonoscopy.
As a public service there will be no further participation in this thread from me. :)

No yodeling jokes either.

Seriously, I have no life.
The fact that they made fun of it really means nothing. If it sounds like crap and they make fun, it has a basis in fact but if it doesn't sound bad, it just means they're too ignorant to figure out how it works and making fun of something that can't be understood is just them being like little kids, poking fun a another kid.

Next time you talk to them, after reaming a new one, just look them in the eyes and say, "You couldn't figure out how it works. How would you know if it's good, or not? ".

I'm curious...

...how old are the Bros-in-laws???
Would definitely P me off. Hope you let them know that. But, also, it could open up some dialog and be a learning experience for them. Always fun to bring somebody "new" to the world of all things audio:cool:

After looking at it, I found that they were running my system using double filtering, a common mistake. Basically, the pre/pro was doing the the bass management. Then after sending it to the sub, they had the low and high pass filters on. This can cause problems. Again just a couple of noobs screwing with my gear.

Actually, this is partly why I was so upset. They are old enough to know better. one of them is almost 30. The other is about 40.

Soundman, I am sorry this has happened to you. Hopefully, it won't ever happen again. Just recently, my daughter came in with her BF and I had a hectic work schedule. I was pulling my hair out because I do not want ANYONE messing with my HT set-up!!!!! Yes, not even my daughter and especially her BF whom I just met. So, I do know how you feel. The saddest part is that I really can't lose anymore hair!! :D:D Between bumping my headboard and situations like this, leaves me practically bald!!:eek: Happy New Year to you. May 2009 bring only better times for you and your family.

Cheers,

Phil

Let me guess....

the in-laws own Bose.
Well, neither of them own Bose. So that's a relief. One of them has a Sony HTIB. The other has a JBL 5.1 setup with towers as fronts and running bookshelfs as surrounds. Not sure of the exact model or series. His whole setup was about $2,500 back in the day when he got it. But actually it's pretty weak for that price, IMO. They use cheap push-pin connectors, and a cheap-looking vynal finish. I'm not saying it's a horrible setup or anything, but since he made fun of mine, I think I have the right to mention a couple of the many short comings of his system. :)

I'm sorry to hear how your relatives "fawked" you over with your sound system. I would not get bent out of shape from the ribbing from these guys about how good or bad your system is. Sounds liek your happy with it and thats all that really counts. Ignore their verbal shite.

However, the way they played with your system is inexecusable. Only jealous morons would behave like that. If they have keys to your house, take them back from them, tell them exactly why you are taking the keys back (lay the guilt trip on them) and rely on a friend or a good neighbour for the next time. The fact that you would take your keys away from them speaks volumes to them of how you lost total respect/trust for/of them. If they don't return the keys, change the locks and give your best friend or trusted neighbour your key.

I'm sorry you had to go through this.

At home? They both have their own homes, if that's what you're asking. They are both married with kids.
Hmmm, isn't that interesting? They would have raised hell with their kids if the settings of their system had been messed up, yet they felt it was their place to mess with yours.

"First thing ya do is beat 'em with a bag of doorknobs".

Then they are total sphincters.

They should have known better. Heaven forbid their children did that to their stuff. Bet their butts would be smokin'.

Here's a thought...ask to borrow their truck or van to transport some stuff, take it off-roading, and tell 'em it got stuck in the mud. :D

I would think taking a dump in the back would be a little more on par with their offense.
