2 yrs ago we decided to convert our 2 car garage into a great room. Our family was growing & we were running out of living space. For the last 2 yrs some days after work, holidays & weekends i would attack the garage with the occasional help of a relative or co-worker. Working in construction, you make friends with different trades men. Some of which i paid to help, or i bartered work with, all in all i had my hands in all phases of this remodel. I decided to drywall all 4 of the walls, make a niche for my existing old school entertainment center with a crawl space in the back (for easy wiring & connections), & emboss the ceiling. I had an idea of what i wanted my finish room to look like. I had a nice collection of equipment/components already & i picked up some more along the way. Im not 100% complete, but im far ahead to sit and enjoy. When i was ready to connect/wire all my components together(in the great room only), i waited till everyone was asleep. It took me around 8 hrs deep into the night, but all was connected & working. With the Ustec 2ch.modulater I am able to view my Kenwood & Samsong DVD players thru any T.V in the house. DVD's do not leave the dvd changer. I can also control the sound & the video of the DVD players thru any of the Russound CAV6.6 keypads. All 6 of the whole house audio spkrs share the connection with the Intercom, door bell, & music. The music or the t.v sound gets cut out (on the spkrs) if the door bell of intercom is used. Its a work in progress, I'm looking to include a 1080p projector, an electrical projection screen, Blu-ray player, & a compatible newer Receiver in the future. Check it out, your feed back is welcomed.

Nice setup. Just thought I'd let you know my Kenwood Sovereign started acting up a little over a month ago. I was having a problem getting it to turn on remote or manual. And wouldn't respond to some remote commands when it did power on. Decided to unload it when I had the chance. Haven't looked into it further yet.

I've had mine for about a 1yr now. Purchased it on ebay used, & have never had any problems with it. I used it with my Escient DVDM which does all the controlling. It was between the Sony DVP-CX777ES 400-disc DVD or the Kenwood 5900, 2 of the few DVD changers that are compatible with the Escient DVDM. After researching both units, the kenwood looked to have better video processing. I use it maybe 4 days out of a week, to listen to my CD's, no problems with any CD's/DVD's getting stuck.

Nice setup. You can tell you took your time and thought everything through. Great job and very nice integration for the whole house portion. Did you teach yourself everything or did you have help from someone in the "industry"?

I can tell you have put a lot of work into this home theater. The craftsmanship really shows. I really like the ceiling detail and lighting. The nice touches like integrating the system into the rest of the house and the door bell is not easy but really shows you wanted something special. My only suggestion would have been to do more research into room acoustics, seating position, and speaker placement. As you can see, I am a horn speaker fan too and all of these things are critical for the best results.

I hope you enjoy your system for years to come. Your hard work really shows and you should be proud of all your hard work.

Happy Holidays and I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year enjoying your home theater!!!!

Good looking out RIXta, I appreciate your help with my attachment. 1st time i've posted anything, still new to this, said i needed 5 post to post any attachments. I found this cool site here, & thought i'd show the fruits of my labor.
I tried to make everything look clean, wife say nobody is going to look at the wiring or the back of the components. She doesn't understand that it's a labor of love & pride, even if its just me looking at it.
Thanks.

I picked up the hobby when i started working for an A/V Home Integration company 5 yrs ago. You learn on the job by trial & error, plug & play, picking up tricks of the trade here & there and being interested in the end result. I've seen & worked in a lot of house from retrofits to new construction. So when i was ready to hook myself up, i had a good idea of what i wanted & how i wanted it to look like(on my budget of course). I had friends help me with the heavy lifting, i.e.. t.v, drywall, ect...I did all the wire pulling(it's hard convincing your friends to crawl on all fours in your hot attic),& A/V connections. There was nothing more satisfying that day then powering up my components & having them all work together.

I did look into some sound proofing, diffusers, absorbers while i was working on this project. I figured i would make my own acoustical treatments if i needed, after i tested the room & blasted the sounds. As far as sound proofing the room, i knew i would only crank up the sound when everyone was watching a movie, or when i was home alone. All & all It sounds good to me, I used an SPL meter & have used test sounds levels to try & get the best results.
I'm happy for now..
Happy Holidays

Ah yes, the moment of triumph.
In my case it's more like, "thank god nothing blew up", but I can relate. :)

That's a lot of work and it looks good.
